    Halep 7-6 (7-2) 4-4 Konta*

Advantage Halep now as an on-the-run Konta works the ball wide, but she recovers with a feisty return that Halep nets.

Halep goes wide with her second serve and Konta lashes her own response wide. Big serve down the middle and Konta nets. Another excellent hold from Halep.

    Halep 7-6 (7-2) 3-4 Konta*

There's someone in the crowd doing a Rubik's Cube in-between games.

A lovely move forward from Halep ensures she meets Konta's volley, but the Brit races to two break points courtesy of a stunning, angled forehand.

Halep saves the first, a wide return ending up in the net, and another chance goes begging as Konta lashes a forehand wide!

Its mesmerising. It’s a perfect atmosphere under the roof on Centre Court. It’s a breathtaking level.

Halep had to stay at such an incredibly high level to try and stay with Konta. Both are so aggressive, it’s just amazing to watch.

David Bebb: Alternative Henman Hill names for Jo Konta? How about The Koncourse

    DominicJay: Johanna Montagne

Julian Lomas: The Konta Kop perhaps?

    *Halep 7-6 (7-2) 3-4 Konta

Two immaculate winners from Konta, right into the left corner of the court, and the Brit gives them plenty of welly.

And again! That serve out wide and Konta's at 40-0, and Halep is just a little hurried as she lashes a return into the net.

It's the greatest quality a sportsperson can have - the ability to go out and act like it's the last point you'll ever play.

You can have the biggest serve, or the best volley, but nothing comes close to that.

Konta lunges at a Halep serve but she gets a bad bounce - something Djokovic voiced his displeasure at earlier - and the ball ends up beating her wafty backhand.

Halep is so powerful. Up on tiptoes and battering a one-handed forehand winner behind Konta, but a brilliant run from Konta means the Brit reaches a drop shot to tap a winner back over!

Long on the backhand from Konta, though, and the Romanian holds.

    Barbara Schett
Former world number seven on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's really important that Konta held and now leads in the set. When you are 40-0 up and then go to deuce it's never easy but she produced some big forehands.

She just needs to hang in there and she will get her chances.

I've been so impressed with Jo over the last couple of years. It wasn't so long ago that she was outside the top 150 in the world. She's continued to improve and made the semi-finals in Australia so has good Grand Slam experience.

She's done so well over the fortnight here and playing at home she hasn't got much experience but in that first week the quality was brilliant.

She is serving well and her mentality and composure is brilliant. She has a great head on her shoulders and she is definitely one of the contenders.

    *Halep 7-6 (7-2) 2-3 Konta

Good serve from Konta, punchy and pacey, and Halep gets in a twist as she nets.

On the move comes Konta and a superb, passing forehand gets her the hold, and a clenched fist of encouragement from Wim Fissette.

    *Halep 7-6 (7-2) 2-2 Konta

Lovely from Konta, a passing forehand winner that not even Halep, with her brilliant level of fitness, can run to meet.

Two big serves beat Halep but a double fault as Konta tries to go out wide takes us to 40-15. Konta's box is unmoved, coach Wim Fissette looking stony faced, and he'll be even less amused as a backhand slap goes wide

And with that long forehand, 40-0 becomes deuce...

    *Halep 7-6 (7-2) 1-2 Konta

Konta made a real meal of that last game and she knows it, showing her first hint of frustration as she grabs a towel and hides her face in it.

She needs a strong comeback and she gets it, first dictating play from the baseline before guiding over a forehand at the net that Halep curves wide.

Another cracking return from the Romanian out wide throws Konta, her backhand finding the net, but the Brit holds.

  18. 'Halep covers so much court'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    Leon Smith
Great Britain Davis Cup captain on Radio 5 live

Konta has been all-out attack from the baseline but you have to admire Halep. She covers all of the court, she has so much heart and fight. It's making it a great contest.

Halep ran so much in that point. It is unreal how much she covers!

The cameras have just panned to a gentleman in the crowd who is falling asleep. He tries really hard to keep his eyes open but the head just keeps on nodding.

Someone pass that man a blanket!

  20. Halep saves two break pointspublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    Halep 7-6 (7-2) 1-1 Konta*

Ooft! That is a corker of a winner from Konta, a whirl of the arms and a flying forehand that Halep can't get near.

We race to two break points and Halep saves the first, a well-directed serve that Konta nets - and again! Deuce.

The wall that is Simona Halep keeps on pushing and Konta first nets, then overworks to allow the Romanian to hold.
