Roger Federer will love that. He knew it was coming... the call for new balls. Serving for the championship.

  4. 'Federer is a better player now'published at 15:49 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

He'll be focusing on one thing only - getting this service game under his belt.

I think he's become a better player since when he won his first few Wimbledon titles.

  5. Federer to serve for victorypublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Federer 6-3 6-1 5-3 Cilic*

"If you're going to win this Roger then you bloomin' well do it on your own serve," may or may not be what Marin Cilic is thinking right now.

Although Federer isn't that bothered as the game slips by quickly. He wants to win this on his own terms, I'd suggest.

A huge roar - and a burst of sunshine - greets the Swiss as he climbs back off his chair...

    Chris Bevan

"Come on Federer, give him a break," shouts one fan, within earshot of the seven-time champ.

Everyone laughs. Not Fed. He bangs down a big serve to hold and move within one game of victory.

  7. Federer edges closer to titlepublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Federer 6-3 6-1 5-3 Cilic*

Roger Federer is not letting his foot off the gas. He wants to get this wrapped up quickly. He's got a Champion's Dinner to attend later after all.

Marin Cilic tries his best to stall the seemingly inevitable with a deft touch at the net, but that is only 30-15 and serves to wind up Federer.

The Swiss wallops home a forehand winner, then Cilic knocks into the net.

Federer is one more game from history...

  8. 'Federer is answering the doubters'published at 15:46 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

What is Roger Federer thinking right now?

A year ago he left this championship a heartbroken man. Everybody doubted him. Is he going to come back? Well, 12 months later, he is answering everybody.

Daniel Woods: Whenever Cilic has had time to hit the ball, he's taken it and missed... badly. Simple shots made difficult by the circumstances.

    *Federer 6-3 6-1 4-3 Cilic

Dark clouds are gathering over the exposed Centre Court. Maybe Cilic's moves on the baseline are his version of a rain dance?

He needs a shower because he is chances are being washed away

Two more break points for Federer... one will do. Cilic knocks a forehand into the net.

  11. Centre Court crowd don't want this over yetpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Henman Hill was flat and, now I am in the Centre Court press box, you would hardly say It is buzzing courtside either as Fed closes in on a seemingly inevitable victory.

There is a kind of resigned murmur - or even a groan - every time Cilic drops a point, especially on his own serve, because I think many people here realise this match might not last that much longer - and they probably wanted a bit more for their money.

  12. Ruthless Federer holds easilypublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Federer 6-3 6-1 3-3 Cilic*

Roger Federer is the tennis equivalent of Joe Pesci's Tommy DeVito character in Goodfellas.

No, he's not a murdering psychopath. He's just totally and utterly ruthless.

An ace and a service winner, with a couple of basic Cilic errors sandwiched in-between, bookend the easiest of holds.

Marin Cilic keeps his nose in front. An ace out wide leaves Roger Federer flat-footed on game point, a trademark clench of the fist and glare towards his team following.

  14. Federer comes through test of servepublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Federer 6-3 6-1 2-2 Cilic

Marin Cilic's foot looks alright now. He's got his dancing shoes on, jumping around the baseline like he's partying in Ocean Beach Club.

Whether that briefly distracts Federer, or whether he feels a bit of sympathy, I'm not sure, but two timid forehands into the net give Cilic hope.

Deuce... followed by a Federer ace and a miscue from Cilic sees him home.

  15. 'Cilic making too many mistakes'published at 15:32 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Marin Cilic just can't get it going - too many unforced errors, even on Roger Federer's second serve.

The first thing that goes when you are nervous is the movement.

  16. Gutsy hold for Cilicpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    *Federer 6-3 6-1 1-2 Cilic

That's better Marin! The one-time Grand Slam winner pummels a high ball down into the grass to safety, dumping that break point in the rubbish bin.

A big serve out wide cannot be guided back by Federer and that seals a gutsy hold for Cilic after a nine-minute game.

Uh oh, more pressure on the Cilic serve. After going 30-0 down, the seventh seed battles back to 30-30 then trades points like bar-room brawlers trade punches.

Into deuce... Cilic's forehand is still misfiring, clubbing one into the tramlines and then one into the net.

    Break point for Federer....
