    *Murray/Hingis 6-4 1-2 Kontinen/Watson

That's a solid service game from Heather Watson.

The Brit takes it to 40-0 with little trouble, before Martina Hingis engages her in a rally that's ultimately finished off by an acute Henri Kontinen slice at the net.

Martina Hingis is a tennis genius in that she seems to know where you are going to put the ball before you do. She was telepathic when I played her in the invitational doubles and I was glad when she stuck to the women's doubles and left us alone!

Heather Watson is attempting to do what no British player has done since 1984, defend the Wimbledon mixed doubles title.

John Lloyd, alongside Australian Wendy Turnbull, was the last to achieve that feat.

    Murray/Hingis 6-4 1-1 Kontinen/Watson*

Martina Hingis has volleyed like an absolute diamond for more than 20 years, and she's not about to stop now.

The Swiss shows subtle hands and twinkle toes at the net to adapt quickly and fire back a winner.

Jamie Murray sees out his service game to level up in the second set.

I don't really feel that one player has dominated so far but Jamie Murray has really got into the opposition's eyeline at the net. His presence there makes you overthink things and you use up a lot of energy trying to neutralise Jamie.

    *Murray/Hingis 6-4 0-1 Kontinen/Watson

A quick natter at the baseline between Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson as they close in on the first game in the second set.

Not sure what was said, but it doesn't come to fruition... a wild forehand from Heather Watson goes long and wide and Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis bring it back to 40-30.

Cue a powerful Kontinen serve and the defending champions see out their service game.

How does that swing which this crowd go in the Brit-supporting ranks?

Wanting to see Jamie Murray prevail? Or wanting to see Heather Watson take it to three sets?

    Murray/Hingis 6-4 Kontinen/Watson*

Someone check Jamie Murray's feet for springs. Whenever he senses the chance to finish a point, the Scot bounces on to loose air balls like a kangaroo swinging wildly in the outback.

And that's enough for he and Martina Hingis to take the first set. Mum Judy loves that, she's up in the crowd first-pumping her son into the second set...

    Murray/Hingis 5-4 Kontinen/Watson*

Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson aren't about to give this opening set up easily.

The powerful Finn returns with venom to take the opening point and makes it 30-15 with a combination of quick feet, a smart top-spin forehand and an unstoppable volley.

So, it'll be Jamie Murray serving to take the first set...

    *Murray/Hingis 5-4 Kontinen/Watson

Some of these Henri Kontinen serves are so fast you can barely see them flash across the net. A slightly slower effort gives Jamie Murray the chance to fling it back, but Heather Watson is alert at the net to direct a volley Martina Hingis' way and the former Wimbledon singles champion sends her return long.

    Murray/Hingis 5-3 Kontinen/Watson*

It's rattling around Centre Court like a pinball machine at the minute, big serves coming back with interest followed by quick volleys at the net.

But just as I praise Jamie Murray, he finds the net with two returns that were coming at his body - 30-30.

A grunt and a smash from Murray as Henri Kontinen dallies up a weak return. The 31-year-old isn't missing that, and then somehow he gets a fierce Heather Watson forehand back when facing the wrong way...

Thunderbolts and delicate drops. Henri Kontinen shows off his whole repertoire with a subtle volley that falls just over the net.

Anything you can do and all that... Jamie Murray goes dancing across court to block a Heather Watson forehand back like he was batting out a Test match.

That gives he and Martina Hingis the break point opportunity, and Murray takes it again. A superb volleying display so far from the Scot.

    Murray/Hingis 3-3 Kontinen/Watson*

Jamie Murray's look wouldn't be complete without a baseball cap. White of course. Not sure I can get away with wearing a cap to work, but if I did, I would doff it to the Scot after another flawless service game and some equally deft volleying at the net.

It's Martina Hingis, however, who wraps up the final point with some well-timed overhead smashes that have Heather Watson racing across the baseline.

    *Murray/Hingis 2-3 Kontinen/Watson

Henri Kontinen can strike a ball. He's seen off this service game with a couple of big serves and some even bigger smashes.

Line judges beware. There could be some ducking and diving to avoid some serious bruises in this final.

    Murray/Hingis 2-2 Kontinen/Watson*

Centre Court is beginning to fill up again after a quick water (Pimms?) break following the men's final... they've arrived just in time to see Martina Hingis serve, but the Swiss can't pick a Heather Watson return high enough to lift it over the net.

A mishit follows from the 22-Slam champion. Then a double fault...bottle that one up, it's a rarity. It does give Watson and Henri Kontinen a chance to break back.

A thumping top-spin forehand from the Finn is too hot for Jamie Murray to handle, it almost rips the Scot's racquet from his hand. Back on service.

Heather Watson on serve, but a loose attempt at a lob gives Jamie Murray the chance to sprint towards the net, leap and hang like a fine Scottish salmon before snapping down a smash to make it 15-15.

The pairs quickly trade points, before Murray attempts to lob Henri Kontinen and watches the Finn swivel and loft it back into play. Heather Watson can't keep it alive and it's a break point chance...

Taken! Murray leaps in front of Martina Hingis at the net, Kontinen can't keep that inside the chalk.

Jamie Murray is a leftie. He whips serves away like a Roberto Carlos free-kick, and when they are returned, the Scot is up to the net quickly alongside his parnter Martina Hingis to finish the point with ruthless efficiency.

No messing in these opening service games.

Henri Kontinen flashes down a couple of huge serves, but Martina Hingis and Jamie Murray then manage engage their opponents in a string of volleys to get their scoreboard up and running at 40-15.

Another pair of big serves from the Finn, he and Heather Watson hold - they rattled through that in double quick time.

Right then, a quick whisper behind a tennis ball-holding hand from Henri Kontinen to his partner Heather Watson and we're off...

    The defending champions to serve.
