    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-2 Basilashvili

Kyle Edmund seems to have been around a while now but he's still only 23. His composure has been really impressive so far in this match and now he's going to have to find something to fight off Basilashvili.

A loose game so far from Edmund and Basilashvili has a break point at 30-40.

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-2 Basilashvili

This will not help Basilashvili's mood. He's 40-0 up but then double faults for a sixth time before messing up a volley, the ball almost failing to reach the net, on the way to being pulled back to deuce by Edmund.

That's better. A nonchalant forehand winner from Basilashvili and he keeps the deficit to just one break of serve.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-1 Basilashvili*

Basilashvili angrily slaps a ball away as he misses another groundstroke. He's ticking. He winds up and thumps a backhand deep towards Edmund but then forehand, again smacked a quite some pace, goes wide and long.

Edmund holds to love and just pats the balls back down the other end. Over to you, Nikoloz.

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 2-1 Basilashvili

    Too good. Just too good.

Kyle Edmund has Basilashvili running around left and right on the baseline before finishing the point by hitting into the open court with the Georgian almost in the stands after retrieving the previous ball. 30-30.

Now Edmund looks a little frustrated as he misses out on another really slow second serve from Basilashvili. Another forehand goes long by Edmund. That's a chance missed. Basilashvili survives. Just.

Hold of serve confirmed by Edmund at the third attempt. He's been really impressive out there. Still no signs of injury since that early medical time out.

There's a chance for Edmund to step on the accelerator and really run away with this. Basilashvili looks really irritated. His game isn't quite working and he's hit a lot of double faults and made a lot of errors.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 1-0 Basilashvili*

There are caps for sale around the ground but Basilashvili is persisting without one despite the sunshine. Just a headband keeping the sweat and dark hair out of the Georgian's eyes.

Basilashvili really doesn't look happy out there now. He frames another ball into the stands as Edmund brings up game point at 40-30.

Has Edmund made that?! Oooo. Almost. Just long with what would have been a spectacular winner. Deuce.

It’s the wind rather than the heat which is affecting play at the moment, it really whipped up for a few minutes during the tie-break and Basilashvili in particular is not enjoying it.

The sun does continue to make its terrifying march up the one shady side of the stadium, with sunscreen being slapped on furiously as soon as people’s knees get a bit toasty.

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 1-0 Basilashvili

Here's an opportunity for Edmund to really take a tight grip on this match. Two break points straight away at the start of this set almost before I have looked up from the stats at the end of the first set.

And the Briton takes the first break point! The Edmund groundstrokes are too heavy at the moment! He jogs to his seat. Heat? What heat.

I was concerned when Kyle had treatment so early on but I don't think he's been impeded by his shoulder. That was a very good first set and carries on the good form he has been showing this year at Melbourne Park.

    Edmund 6-6 (5-0) Basilashvili*

Kyle Edmund is dominating this tie-break. The forehand proves too strong before a thumping ace. The British number two is bouncing around the baseline and clenching his fist towards his box. Strong body language. He's dialed in, as they say.

    Now then.

Nikoloz Basilashvili looks to have this serve game sewn up as he rushes into a 40-0 lead but Edmund fights back brilliantly.

He takes us to deuce with a fine backhand winner down the line. The shot of the match so far.

    Another chance for Edmund...

    Edmund 6-5 Basilashvili*

Now Kyle Edmund double faults for the first time this match. A spot of danger here at 5-5, 30-30.

What can the Briton conjour up?

That'll help. A backhand second serve return into the net by Basilashvili. 40-30.

Ace! A hold from Edmund. Pressure back on Basilashvili.

    Not to be this time.

A couple of unforced errors from Edmund and Basilashvili wriggles free of his grasp. The game is sealed as Edmund dumps a backhand into the net.

The points are lengthening a little. Both players looking good physically under the searing sun so far.

    Edmund 5-4 Basilashvili*

My skin burns in April in northern England. I'm worried for Piers and the players with temperatures that hot.

More good stuff from Kyle Edmund. He fights back from 40-15 to take us to deuce.

He's two points away from the set.
