    It's already been a good day for the underdog.

    Elise Mertens, ranked 37th, has knocked out fourth seed Elina Svitolina with a dominant performance on the Rod Laver Arena to reach the semi-finals in Melbourne.

    The Belgian powered to a 6-4 6-0 victory in one hour and 13 minutes, hitting 26 winners to Svitolina's 14 and looking in total control.

    The 22-year-old, who has yet to drop a set in Melbourne, will play either Caroline Wozniacki or Carla Suarez Navarro in the last four.
