The temperature is almost 30C on Centre, probably hotter court-side. I still don't think Federer broke sweat.

One fan has a sign in her hand, asking Federer if she can have his headband.

Federer sees her, roots around in his bag, and pulls out a fresh headband for her, much to her delight.

    And that'll be that!

An hour and 19 minutes is all it takes for Roger Federer to reach the second round. He'll face sterner tests than that, you'd imagine.

He hasn't lost at Wimbledon since the semi-finals in 2016.

A sumptuous passing shot from Dusan Lajovic gets him to 0-15, before he plants a return of serve into the net.

Federer dances around and goes cross-court with a forehand winner, before another Lajovic backhand finds the net.

    Two match points to Federer.

A disappointing day for Sloane Stephens and that wasn't a confident performance from her. Donna Vekic on the other hand came out firing. She was more focused of the two players and a was more confident in the big games.

Huge applause as Roger Federer makes his way out to serve.

We've only been on court for an hour and 15 minutes.

    *Federer 6-1 6-3 5-4 Lajovic

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

You don’t get used to playing on Centre Court for a while, the bounce, the atmosphere. By the time you do, you are down a set or two. Lajovic is playing better because he has played here for one hour and 15 minutes now.

A different court to any in the world and some can be overwhelmed by it, not comfortable, you're scared. It is the biggest court in the world.

  9. 'I always try to be aggressive'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Vekic 6-1 6-3 Stephens

Donna Vekic, speaking after her 6-1 6-3 win over Sloane Stephens, said: "I always try to out there and be aggressive. I am happy to get through and hopefully I can continue it in the next match.

"I have played all the tournaments on grass so I feel good. There are no easy opponents so it's only going to get tougher from here."

That's excellent work from Dusan Lajovic.

He races through a hold to love, with successive errors flying off the Federer racquet. The defending champion will serve for the match.

    Federer 6-1 6-3 5-3 Lajovic*

The first point of Federer's service game goes Lajovic's way, but it's one-way traffic from there on in.

Federer is a game away from a spot in the second round.

    Vekic 6-1 6-3 Stephens

US Open champion Sloane Stephens is out of Wimbledon in the first round!

Stephens volleys a winner after advancing to the net to save a second match point and is fortunate with a third when Donna Vekic strikes a return into the net.

However, the Croat produces the first major shock of Wimbledon to finish the job at the fourth time of asking. A disconsolate Stephens cannot get off court quickly enough.

Five-time champion Venus Williams has had to battle hard in the early stages of her encounter with Sweden's Johanna Larsson.

Williams went down a break early on but has broken back and now broken Larsson again to take control of the opening set.

An audible "oh!" from Federer as he eyes up a smash winner, and ends up launching the ball over everyone's heads.

Federer gets on the board with an almighty return of serve at 30-15, but two wonky backhands ensure Lajovic holds.

Serena is in the house... although she’s keeping it quiet. She’s warming up for her match against Arantxa Rus this afternoon and is on one of the practice courts that I can’t get a good view of.

She arrived through a back entrance and has positioned herself on the side of her court where the best glimpse you can get is through two fences and some netting.

She’s been here enough times to know the best practice spots away from the cameras! (In this picture she’s on the court below the number 3 sign... honest!)

  16. 'Easy game not a danger'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 6-1 6-3 4-2 Lajovic*

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

When you are up and coming, it can be a danger if you win too easy and believe the hype.

But Roger knows where he is at, so he's going to take any easy matches he can get at this stage.

  17. Federer closing in on victorypublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Federer 6-1 6-3 4-2 Lajovic*

A rare misstep at the net from Federer, as he approaches and Lajovic pummels a winner past him.

Federer's first serve has just temporarily gone walkabout, but a bobble off the net falls kindly for Fed at 40-15, and Lajovic hoicks a return of serve long.

  18. Stephens on the brinkpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 2 July 2018

    Vekic 6-1 5-4 Stephens

Looks like it could be a great 24 hours for Croatia.

Donna Vekic is one game away from the biggest win of her career. US Open champion Sloane Stephens saves one match point on her serve to force deuce.

It's not been an easy match for Stephens...

Oohs from the crowd as Federer makes an obscene return down the line, which Lajovic returns - and then sighs, as Federer plonks his cross-court backhand out,.

Advantage Lajovic, and he holds as Federer lob drifts long.
