One thing that tie-break win for Kei Nishikori means is that we may well finish this match tonight. That'd be good news for the organisers with a rest day tomorrow and all last 16 ties played on Monday.

There's an umpire on the centre line on Court One who is getting quite a workout from Nick Kyrgios. He's ducking and weaving like a boxer to get out the way of some thunderbolt serves.

Another of those helps Kyrgios hold. Nishikori responds with two points of his own.

    Even start to the breaker.

    Edmund 6-4 3-6 2-6 4-6 Djokovic

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

I’m disappointed Edmund lost, but I’m disappointed he lost to Djokovic, so in context it shows how far his game has come. Now he’s a genuine contender in the slams to get into the second week.

And the way he played at the end of the first set beginning of the second you felt this could be another opportunity for him to make another breakthrough.

  10. 'I had to stay mentally tough'published at 20:22 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Edmund 6-4 3-6 2-6 4-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic on his win over Kyle Edmund:

"It was tough, Edmund is playing really well, he won our last encounter on clay. He has just improved a lot in his game, especially the backhand side. The forehand we know is a big weapon, and he is serving better. Not an ideal situation for me but somehow managed to come back.

"I had to stay composed. I was 100% convinced it was a double bounce in the fourth set, but anyone can make a mistake. It was an important point. I asked the chair umpire how is it possible he plays that shot if it didn’t bounce twice it, didn’t make sense. I had to stay mentally tough, the next game was tough. I am just glad to overcome this challenge in four sets.

"I am looking forward to a second week of a slam. I have been playing these Wimbledon courts for a decade, I have wonderful memories of Centre Court and Court one and looking forward to competing some more

He's still not happy but Nick Kyrgios holds under some decent pressure from Kei Nishikori. If the Australian does level this one up then they're going to struggle to finish this match tonight aren't they?

  17. 'A step in the right direction for Edmund'published at 20:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Edmund 6-4 3-6 2-6 4-6 Djokovic

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

This is a surface Edmund is the least comfortable on, so a step in the right direction. He was good at the French Open, great at the Australian Open. He has established himself, guys are going to come after him, he has to keep working, but you are talking about playing against one of the best in the world.

  18. Kyrgios breaks backpublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

"My arm is so dead", says Nick Kyrgios as he steps up to the baseline after just breaking the Nishikori serve to get back into this set.

Kyrgios was holding his elbow a few moments ago.

A 133mph ace. I'd hate to know what he's like with an 'alive' elbow.

    Edmund 6-4 3-6 2-6 4-6 Djokovic

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

I think this is admirable from Djokovic. He's kept his cool, it could have gone south really quickly. He has worked hard to keep his game up. This is why people feel he is a threat and getting closer to his best.
