Rafael Nadal takes two towels at the changeover and skips back towards the line to receive, handing one to a ball girl and popping the other down behind him.

Novak Djokovic, amid three butterflies now floating around Centre Court, strides forward to meet a passing shot with a well-weighted drop volley. The SW19 faithful enjoyed that.

Nadal thinks he's picked his spot with a driven backhand, but it finds the gutter.

    That's 40-15.

Wonderful, soft hands from Rafael Nadal, dipping low to meet a Novak Djokovic baseline stroke that skips just over the tape and picking it up to find the winner.

The Spaniard opts for the net again, but leaves his volley in mid-court this time and Djokovic slaps a passing shot beyond the stranded second seed.

Nadal clubs long off the next, two break points.

    Here's how he broke earlier...

Sarah: So do you reckon the butterfly was a good or bad omen? Looks good at the moment.

Jo: That may have the best seat on the court but it sure has a death wish.

Nadal is like a boxer, like Mike Tyson. A couple of early jabs and then he's straight into it, going for the knockout blow. He's so pumped up for this.

    Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 3-0 Djokovic*

Rafa's looking pumped now, his groundstrokes are bigger and faster with every point, and Novak Djokovic can't control his string speed in response.

Nadal mixes power with precision and a touch of subtly, flicking a slice volley beyond the Serb, before resorting to a hammer-like forehand to pick off the 12th seed.

    And he holds to love.

The big difference to me today is that Nadal is determined to play on his terms, which is not easy with Djokovic's ground stokes.

When he gets the opportunity to step in and finish at the net he has been really impressive.

I don't think I've ever seen Nadal looking so intense. He's roaring!

He's charging around the court and playing so aggressively.

The butterfly is now on its second lap of the court. It's like a reality show - is it going to get out alive? It's very close to Rafa - - it's right on the service line where Djokovic is aiming.

Ouchy. Novak Djokovic nails a line judge with a whipping serve that just drifted long, and the Serb finds himself 0-30 down as Rafael Nadal attacks his second serve.

The three-time champion responds with an ace, but Nadal brings up two break points with a double-volley combo after scuttling into the net.

Jack: That break point defence from Rafa was extraordinary. It showed his desire - how much he wants this. Djokovic just had the upperhand and suddenly dug deep and roared through. Stronger than strong, he pummelled Novak down..

That was quite a mental battle for Rafa to win that. After one game Rafa looks like he has been out here for six and a half hours like Kevin Anderson.

Normally tennis players will be put through their paces by their coaching teams in practice sessions at Aorangi Park ahead of their matches this weekend.

But there is a notable exception on the list for today - Kevin Anderson.

After his marathon semi final which lasted over six-and-a-half hours, it's not surprising the Wimbledon finalist is taking it easy today.

And while he recovers he'll be hoping the second semi-final between Djokovic and Nadal goes long as well, to even it up in the leg soreness stakes!

Wow. We're already seeing some astounding tennis. These players just won't be beaten, as Novak Djokovic whips down a backhand winner to bring it back to deuce.

Penny for your thoughts, Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber?

Eventually Nadal holds with a bullet-like body serve. And breathe...
