    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Kerber has a shot at being world number one. She will get so much confidence from this win, so you have to look at her as one of the favourites. The year is so young.

We asked people at SW19 how they would react if they won Wimbledon. The results were mixed but extremely amusing. You can watch them all on BBC Sport’s Instagram story.

  8. 'Everyone wants to win Wimbledon'published at 17:59 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Billie Jean King
Six-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

After that very first game, you could see Kerber thinking 'woah, this is great, good start'. You could see it in her body language, she really settled in.

Kerber was so consistent. Keeps getting one, two, three, four balls back, and when Serena's not had that match play...

You always want to win Wimbledon before you retire, if you asked most players if they could only win one Grand Slam, most would say Wimbledon.

I wish people could see how hard the players work behind the scenes. Tennis is an art and a science, but there is a lot of science now.

  11. 'Kerber forced Serena to adapt'published at 17:54 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

More balls came back, Kerber returned Serena’s serve well. Serena didn’t get the payoff from her ground strokes, tried to hit harder and made more errors. She came to the net more often which she doesn’t do a lot.

  12. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Here's an interesting(ish) stat.

Angelique Kerber covered 4224.2ft of the Wimbledon court and Williams covered 4067.0ft.

That dogged display - never giving up on a point - was what landed the German her first Wimbledon title.

    The Williams errors helped too.

  13. 'You feel like you belong'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

No tournament makes you feel more like a winner than Wimbledon. It makes you feel like 'I belong to this game of tennis'. This tournament does it brilliantly.

  14. 'Kerber thrives on power'published at 17:48 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Billie Jean King
Six-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Serena has a lot of power and Kerber thrives on that power.

She couldn't believe Serena made those unforced errors early. Serena gave her hope early in the match.

  15. 'Serena's lack of games showed'published at 17:47 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Kerber did not look nervous. One bad game on her serve, but that was it. Serena was off a little compared to how she played against Gorges and it gave her maybe too much confidence. The fact she hasn’t played enough games showed.

  16. A royal occasion...published at 17:47 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    RoyalsImage source, BBC Sport

Kerber met the Duchess of Cambridge and Williams fan, the Duchess of Sussex, en route.

    Which was a nice touch.

  17. 'They have got another hero....'published at 17:46 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

The TV camera is now following Angelique Kerber down the corridor and to the balcony where she lifts the dish and shows it off to the hundreds pointing their smartphones upwards.

Looks like a watered-down scene from Mad Max.

  18. 'Serena couldn't find any rhythm'published at 17:42 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Williams 3-6 3-6 Kerber

    Billie Jean King
Six-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Serena could never get any rhythm, if you can keep her out there long enough, keep the rallies long, and see how fit she is... she looked a bit like she was sucking it up, out of breath a few times. Kerber always gets that one more ball back.

    Those errors Serena?!!!
