Big save from Rafael Nadal! And he backs it up by flinging a forehand winner down court from a Novak Djokovic backhand smash, after the Spaniard's lob attempt failed to clear him.

A huge serve and even bigger reverse forehand winner. He's fist pumping now!

Big, big serve from the world number one and it rattles the strings of Novak Djokovic's racquet before flinging long.

Nadal wipes out any sniff of a break opportunity with a volleyed winner, only to drag a meaty forehand wide with Djokovic at the net.

    Deuce.

You sense the tension inside Centre Court. And this is just the warm-up, the small matter of the women's final to come...

There's a smattering of applause as Novak Djokovic takes the first point on the Rafael Nadal serve, but it gets louder as the Spaniard flicks down a 90mph backhand to draw level.

Actress Thandie Newton can't believe it.

Double fault Nadal. Can Djokovic capitalise from 15-30?

We're rattling through holds at the minute. Novak Djokovic cruises to 40-0 before driving a backhand wide to see Rafael Nadal get on the board.

It's a minor blemish on the 12th seed's serve, as Nadal fires long.

The serving from both players has been extraordinary, both yesterday and today. Gives them a lot of free points.

Rafael Nadal leads the points-won stakes 150-149, but it's Novak Djokovic who's a game to the good as it remains on serve in the final set.

Nadal pops an ace out wide and adds another down the middle to hold - just his fifth and sixth of the match.

Nadal and Djokovic have met more times than any other two men in the Open era, but only two of their previous 51 meetings have also gone to a fifth set.

They were bona fide classics, this one could turn into another.

Djokovic won the first one - that Australian Open final in 2012 - while Nadal edged the second in that 2013 semi-final at Roland Garros.

    *Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 2-3 Djokovic

    Boris Becker

Djokovic has taken the initiative. He's made the rallies shorter, and when has the chance has come to the net. That has been the recipe of success for both players in this match.

    *Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 2-3 Djokovic

Oh dear, Novak Djokovic flings his arms in the air after miscuing a backhand into the tramlines - he'll challenge, but that's out.

He leaps in a forehand winner after Rafael Nadal drops a return short, before zipping a backhand the same way. An ace down the T sees the Serb hold.

This is the best level we've seen from Djokovic for two years. I don't think we've seen the lapses we've seen earlier in the year.

I'm fascinated by their body language. He looks depressed and in such a foul mood whereas Rafa looks up for the fight, like John Travolta in Grease the way he struts around.

    *Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 1-2 Djokovic

Rafa bounces around, looking for the ball he wants to begin his service game with. He sends his choice-fluff deep, but Djokovic engages and just keeps getting it back, almost picking off the Spaniard with a low-bouncing baseline effort before a Nadal drop shot brings the former world number one to his knees. Brilliant.

The intention from Nadal is clear. When he gets anything short, whether it is from a serve or a forehand, he is looking to attack.

    *Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 1-2 Djokovic

The bounces before a Novak Djokovic serve are mesmerising, but Rafael Nadal manages to hold his focus and draws the Serb into the net where he fails to clear the tape.

Nadal dances round a ball in centre court, but flings it into the tramlines and looks immediately disappointed with himself.

Djokovic gets his angles right, wrong-footing the second seed off his backhand side before sealing the hold with an ace.

  20. Nadal holdspublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

    Nadal 4-6 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 1-1 Djokovic*

I'm not sure I can take another 26-24 final set... looking at you, Kevin Anderson and John Isner. I doubt Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber would be that chuffed with it either. We're already beyond the original start time for their final.

A Rafael Nadal backhand down the line proves too hot for Novak Djokovic to handle as he pats it back into the net, with a hammer of a serve down the middle making it 30-30.

Nadal stops to let the butterfly - the star of Centre Court this afternoon - drift on by, before watching a Djokovic passing backhand head the same way.

    He holds.
