Twelve-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic says his confidence has been knocked since returning from elbow surgery in January.

But after his second-round win, the 31-year-old expressed how his struggles on the tennis court are insignificant compared to real life problems such as poverty, so he just accepts them.

"To sit here and talk about how tough it is and you have people starving to death, for me there is no point talking about that [his issues]," he said.

"It's just the way it is. As an athlete I have to face these challenges."

"I'm not playing at the level I wish to but I'm trying not to give up."

The Serbian has dropped down the rankings and has failed to rediscover his best form following elbow surgery in January.

He is seeded 20th at Roland Garros - seven places below today's opponent, Roberto Bautista Agut.
