  11. Was Sharapova caught cold?published at 13:59 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    Mike Dickson
Daily Mail tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I don't think anyone would have predicted the one-way traffic there was at stages in that first set. I wonder if Sharapova has been slightly upset by the massively disappointing withdrawal of Serena Williams and the lack of action for four days. Maybe she got caught cold a little bit.

Muguruza is hitting the ball beautifully, very clean and flat and pushing Sharapova wide to expose her sometimes not very silky movement.

But Kerber has just broken again. And now the German can serve for the first set...

The first serve is out, the second helps her create a good position for Muguruza to hit it deep and Sharapova can only send her next shot halfway up the net.

Muguruza is halfway there to the semi-finals. Sharapova needs to raise her game quickly.

Anonymous: First Grand Slam memory and what got me into tennis was the 2004 Wimbledon final where Sharapova beat S.Williams. Sad she cast a shadow over her talent and credibility. Muguruza to win hopefully, really like her!
