Halep 6-7 (2-7) 4-2 Kerber*

A solid hold for the Romanian to maintain the break.
*Halep 6-7 (2-7)3-2 Kerber
It's turning into some battle, this quarter-final between Halep and Kerber.
The German gets the world number one on the run with a deft slice, before sending a lob up over her head only for Kerber to throw a racquet at it and send a volley wide.
Kerber holds, but remains a break down in the second set.
Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-1 Kerber*
Simona Halep is still a break to the good in the second set of her quarter-final against Angelique Kerber.
The Romanian world number one lost the first set on a tie-break after exchanging three breaks each with Germany's Kerber.
This could be going the distance.
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 6-1 Maria Sharapova
RandomThoughts: Did anyone else already predict Muguruza was going to smash Sharapova out of the water? Just had a feeling that she's improved at such a rapid pace since their last meeting it would be too much for Maria. Hope Muguruza wins the whole thing, come on Garbi!

I thought Sharapova was getting back to her best but Muguruza is on a roll at Roland Garros and totally dominated.

One half of the Spanish double completed. I counted at least eight red and yellow Spanish flags being waved as Muguruza celebrated in the middle of the court.
Over to you Rafa...
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 6-1 Maria Sharapova
The first Sharapova serve, as it has been far too often today, is no good and the second is dispatched soon afterwards.
Absolute dominance for Garbine Maguruza. She wins it in only one hour ten minutes and was at a different level today.
What must be going through the mind of Serena Williams, who was due to play Sharapova in the last 16 but had to withdraw through injury?
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 5-1 Maria Sharapova*
A good time for Sharapova's first ace. Still one more match point.

Match point for Muguruza after Sharapova pulls a two-handed backhand wide.
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 5-1 Maria Sharapova*
Sharapova's first-serve struggles continue. This is her first Grand Slam quarter-final after her 15-month doping ban and she would have been dreaming for a different outcome today. 0-30, Muguruza two shots from the semi-finals.
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 5-1 Maria Sharapova*
Another one for Muguruza and Sharapova is looking like a beaten player.
Muguruza has not dropped a set in these championships and has been incredibly impressive today.
*Garbine Muguruza 6-2 4-1 Maria Sharapova
Another Muguruza ace, her second, takes her to 30-0. 40-0 comes seconds afterwards another powerful first serve that Sharapova can only send into the stands.

You have to give Muguruza credit for the way she has subdued Sharapova.
You have to think this match is very nearly done.
*Halep 1-0 6-7 (2-7) Kerber
Simona Halep shrugs off the disappointment of losing the opening set to break Angelique Kerber immediately in the second.
The winner of that one faces whoever comes through this one.
Game on...
*Garbine Muguruza 6-2 4-1 Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova tries to angle a powerful forehand into the corner but instead of finding clay, she finds net and Muguruza is now in complete control. Four-one up with a double break and a set up.
This one looks all over bar the screeching.
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 3-1 Maria Sharapova*
Another double fault takes the Sharapova tally up to six and gives Muguruza another chance of a break at 15-30.
The Spaniard takes the next point as well for another break point.
Garbine Muguruza 6-2 3-1 Maria Sharapova*
A thumping first serve from Muguruza down the middle of the court leaves Sharapova off balance and, although she can get her racquet on it, cannot get it anywhere near going back over the net.
That means Muguruza consolidates her break of serve from the previous game and three-one she leads in the second.
*Garbine Muguruza 6-2 2-1 Maria Sharapova
The stats are not making good reading for Sharapova. Five double faults, only 54% of first serves in, 18 unforced errors. She will be hoping for better or her tournament will be over in the next half hour.

Muguruza must be pretty pleased the way things have gone but Sharapova appears to be getting back into it and then fades away again.
