If you didn't know, young Nadal, 33, is hoping to become the first player to win 12 or more titles at the same Grand Slam - beating Aussie Margaret Court's record of 11 Australian Opens.

"It is incredible, being honest, no?" Nadal said jokingly of his own record.

"Is something very special and difficult to explain, but here we are.

"And the day that we start thinking about if it's incredible or not probably will be the day to do another thing. So what I have to do today is not think about if it's incredible, because it's a real thing for me."

  2. 'He's one of few people who could beat Nadal'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

Thiem will be ready to go. He'll have learnt from his experience 12 months ago when Nadal outclassed him.

It will be a different Thiem today. He's the huge underdog because of Nadal's superiority in this stadium but he's the fourth seed, he's got wins against Nadal on clay on his record and he's just beaten the world number one.

He's one of very few people who could beat Nadal at the French Open.

    Speaking of tennis love...

It is 20 years since the golden couple of tennis - Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf - won French Open singles titles and danced at the winners' ball.

And that inspired us to make a quiz. Have a go.

In case you had not noticed, Dominic Thiem's partner Kristina Mladenovic won the women's doubles title alongside Timea Babos.

The pair beat China's Duan Yingying and Zheng Saisai 6-2 6-3 to secure their second Grand Slam title together, having won the 2018 Australian Open.

I'll be honest... finding some Thiem fans was a tough task outside Chatrier. But I managed it.

This is Alexander Kahr and Horst Gruber, who - if you can't guess from the red and white scarves and vintage football shirts - are from Austria.

They arrived in Paris at 8am this morning after deciding to dash over about 4pm last night - after Thiem finally got past Novak Djokovic in their weather-delayed semi-final.

And they're on Chatrier, thanks to some Austrian friends in Paris. It's who you know, eh?

"First we asked all fans from Serbia and Switzerland," jokes Alexander. "They were selling them very cheap!"

Can Dominic Thiem prevent Rafael Nadal from filling that final space in the collage above?

He tried to stop the super Spaniard from winning an 11th title last year but was ultimately brushed aside 6-4 6-3 6-2.

At this point we have to take into account that our intrepid hero from Austria only completed his semi-final on Saturday - so he has had two fewer days' rest.

But this is a much improved and more resilient Thiem in 2019, as world number one Novak Djokovic found to his cost.

Nadal is odds-on but perhaps it's 'Thiem'* for Dominic to take the crown.
