Zverev, out. Tsitsipas, out. Osaka, out.

A really surprising day today already.

  2. Edmund misses another chancepublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Edmund 5-4 Munar

Edmund's forehand does not let him down on the next two points, though, bringing cries of anguish from Munar. We are back to 30-all... and a big serve brings up Edmund's fourth set point.

He will need a fifth, though, because he puts his next forehand into the net...

    Williams 1-0 Gauff*

Gauff goes 30-0 down after failing to return two of Williams' big serves, but then responds as the 39-year-old makes two errors.

Williams, winner of seven Slams, eventually holds.

Now, how well do you serve Coco?

  4. Edmund wobbles...published at 18:06 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Edmund 5-4 Munar

Edmund's big forehand has Munar on the run, but the Spaniard stays in the point... and wins it when Edmund plants an easy backhand in the tramlines.

0-15 becomes 0-30 when an inside-out Edmund forehand flies about a mile behind the baseline... a wobble at the worst possible time?

Munar has to work hard to hold, but hold he does. Edmund will serve for the first set next though.

  7. 'It's a great moment for her and for Venus'published at 18:03 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Williams v Gauff

Venus Williams is 24 years older than her opponent and has won five Wimbledon titles - two of those before Gauff was born in 2004.

This is what Venus' sister Serena (who you all may know) said about fellow American Gauff, who was born after Sony Ericsson T610 came out! Exactly!

"She's an exciting young player, and she's so cool," she said.

"She's a great girl. It's a great moment for her and for Venus."

Talking of noise, one line judge’s “out!!” draws chuckles from the crowd for its very high volume.

It was from the chap who was hit by the ball earlier - maybe he’s still feeling that.

  9. Set-points for Edmundpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Edmund 5-3 Munar

Munar saves one set-point with a drop-shot, and another with a dart to the net to follow in a big serve.

Edmund will have another chance, though. A poor Munar drop shot means Edmund has another point for the first set... but the Spaniard scrambles a deep forehand back and we are back to deuce.

Game, set and match - Fabbianopublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

Seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is out, losing a five-set thriller to Italian Thomas Fabbiano.

Fabbiano had two match points in the fourth set before losing it on a tie-break, but it does not come back to haunt him. He breaks Tsitsipas' serve twice in the decider and he advances. Tsitsipas is heading home.

Tsitsipas had been the second-highest seeded player in Novak Djokovic's quarter of the draw.

    Edmund 5-3 Munar

Boom. There goes the Edmund forehand again, moving him to 15-30 on the Munar serve with another big winner.

"He is getting hot at the right moment," says John McEnroe.

  14. Postpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Edmund 5-3 Munar

Edmund is picking his moments to come to the net far better than his opponent - and has put away five out of his six volleys so far. He's still finding his mark from the back of the court too, and holds comfortably again to lead 5-3.

Thomas Fabbiano is two games away from a shock win over seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas.

A forehand from Fabbiano looks to be heading straight towards the Greek, but a net cord completely wrong-foots Tsitsipas and gives the Italian the break.

  18. What’s that noise?published at 17:54 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Sonia Oxley

Munar is quite a noisy player.

Every hit is accompanied by a long, quite deep, growl-like sound. It just seems to last a tiny bit longer than the average tennis ‘grunt’.

  19. 'Edmund could be top-10'published at 17:53 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Edmund 4-3 Munar

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Kyle Edmund has worked diligently to get himself as fit as possible.

This guy could be a top-10 player but injuries and pressure and perhaps not working enough on some aspects of his game have contributed to this sort of step back - if that's what you want to call it.

    Edmund 4-3 Munar

No sign of Munar's fiery temperament yet, but he has recovered a bit of his composure, digging in at 30-40 to stop Edmund from breaking again then holding with a big serve.

The British number one is still a break up in this first set though.
