  1. 'Konta much better than she was two years ago'published at 15:28 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Johanna Konta is a much better player than she was two years ago. I really believe that.

She mixes things up a lot more with the slice and the drop shot. Having that variety to your game takes pressure off you because you can have multiple game plans.

  2. Konta holdspublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Bogdan 5-6 Konta

Johanna Konta polishes off the game to 15 with an arching ace that spits wide and out of the reach of a lurching Ana Bogdan.

The Romanian looked like a whippet owner trying to get hold of its collar while it was in full-bore pursuit of a rabbit.

    No chance.

Bogdan serves to stay in the set next...

No matter whatever happens today, Lloyd Harris is always going to remember set one, game six of his Wimbledon debut as he breaks the serve of eight-time champion Roger Federer.

  5. Bogdan holdspublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    Bogdan 5-5 *Konta

Ana Bogdan attempts to nail Johanna Konta to the backboards with a body serve.

But the Britain slides right to make room for a biffed backhand winner for 0-15.

    Sweet as a nut.

But it is all downhill from there in this game as she blots three unforced errors to let the Romanian off the hook.

Is Konta getting a little tight as we head to the business end of the set? It wouldn't be the first time...

Some things you may not know about Lloyd Harris...

    • He is bidding to reach the second round at a Grand Slam for the second time and equal his best Grand Slam result. This is his fourth Grand Slam appearance.

    • Harris’ best Grand Slam result is reaching the second round at Roland Garros this year (beat Lukas Rosol then lost to Borna Coric). Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Johanna Konta showed amazing timing and ability to win that last point.

You always just want to get the first round out of the way. You don't feel like you're in the tournament until you've won one game.

    Harris 6-3 0-0 Federer*

Lloyd Harris' right arm has the power of a sledgehammer.

First serves racing down about the 130mph mark, deep returns which Federer is struggling to bat back to safety.

The South African looks nerveless, turning to his box and clenching his fist.

    Centre Court is stunned!

    Harris 6-3 0-0 Federer*

He would've been dreaming of this last night and now 22-year-old Lloyd Harris, with a mop of curly hair bursting out under his white cap, playing in his first Wimbledon match, takes the opening set against Roger Federer.

A punch of the air from the South African world number 86. First set Harris.

Ana Bogdan has not come here to be fodder at a first-round love-in.

Fifth seed Austrian Dominic Thiem - the French Open finalist - has fallen at the hands of big serving American Sam Querrey.

The first serve is no good but the second is good and Harris then punches the air after a fine cross-court forehand winner. Deuce.

  19. Konta holdspublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 2 July 2019

    *Bogdan 3-4 Konta

Johanna Konta's double-handed backhand looks like it is registering a couple of extra mph on the speed gun at the moment.

A mighty thwack seems to have Ana Bogdan all out of shape at 40-15 up but Konta misses the ping into the open court on her follow up.

A big serve - barging through the service box and getting right up Bogdan's nose - gets the job done.
