It feels like Lleyton Hewitt has been playing tennis forever. He’s one of the first players I remember watching.

He won the Wimbledon singles title 17 years ago, and he’s still going! He’s playing doubles this year with fellow Aussie Jordan Thompson - and he can still pull in a big crowd!

No sooner was Kyle in that game than he was out of it. This really is a crucial seventh game because if he was to be broken here, that would probably be it.

  3. Verdasco holdspublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    *Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 2-4 Verdasco

Kyle Edmund shows a little more spring in his step, a little more zip in his grounds strokes as he wins the opening point.

But he cannot get the lateral whip on his forehand to wrap a winner around the Spaniard on the next point.

A block forehand long and Verdasco is back in control at 30-15.

    And an ace. 40-15.

An Edmund backhand wide and those flickering British hopes of a break in this game are snuffed out quicksmart.

That is a very good hold for Kyle Edmund because it sends out a message saying, "I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere just yet".

Fernando Verdasco seems to have his serve locked down as tight as Fort Knox.

He holds to 15 with the minimum of fuss and the maximum efficiency. Kyle Edmund somehow has to derail the express train opposite.

The glimmer of hope for British fans is that Verdasco has given away matches he was clearly leading. But Kyle Edmund is a wounded warrior and he needs to be physically picking up the pace now to deal with the ground-strokes of Verdasco.

Playing three hours and 12 minutes of tennis is painful sooner or later. It's part of the process of doing whatever it takes. That's the difference now between winning and losing.

Yes Kyle is a bit hurt, a bit injured and a bit tired. What about the other guy?

But Edmund puts away the smash and holds.
