Djokovic v Kudla
Kudla has quite a task on his hands today. He has at least won the toss though - the American chose to receive serve first.
World number one Djokovic has only lost once to a player ranked as low as the 26-year-old at a Grand Slam – when he was defeated by world number 117 Denis Istomin in the 2017 Australian Open second round.
Djokovic has also only gone out in the Wimbledon second round once. He lost to Marat Safin at this stage in 2008.
Djokovic v Kudla
Slightly later than expected after that three hours and 42 minute slog between Kyle Edmund and Fernando Verdasco, defending champion Novak Djokovic smiles as he strolls out into the Centre Court sunshine.
Djokovic’s Wimbledon title defence got off to an easy enough start against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber. The 32-year-old top seed, who is aiming for a fifth Wimbledon title and a 16th Grand Slam, won in straight sets.
Now Djokovic faces American world number 111 Denis Kudla, who beat Tunisian Malek Jaziri, in the second round.
Fernando Verdaso on BBC TV: "I am a little tired. It's never easy to beat a player like Kyle- even more here. The match was pretty complicated in the first and second set, and I was just trying to stay in the match and keep fighting, even if things weren't going my way but I was able to come back slowly point after point.
"And I felt better on court as the game went on. I saw he was having problems with his knee and called the trainer on and I called the doctor because I had problems with my stomach. It was tough for both of us. In many matches you don't feel 100% you just have to get through it.
"When I won the third set I was seeing the mountain a little bit shorter but obviously there was still a lot to do. I was just trying to focus on the next point. Sometimes it's not easy because you think about the last point instead of the next one but I am pretty happy with my performance and know I will recover for my next one."
Wozniacki 3-2 Kudermetova*
Over on Court One, we're still on serve in the match between Caroline Wozniacki and Veronika Kudermetova, who has just needed to have some medical treatment. She is able to continue but one to monitor.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 4-6 Verdasco
Kyle Edmund returns the applause as the Centre Court crowd cheer him off the court. Fernando Verdasco -a big Real Madrid fan - makes that Gareth Bale 'heart' gesture back to his box.
Three hours and 43 minutes on the clock.
Italian world number 89 Thomas Fabbiano is next up for Verdasco.

John Inverdale
BBC Sport at Wimbledon
It really is never over until it's over. Two sets up, Edmund in complete control, Verdasco very despondent - he was out of the tournament.
Miles Maclagan
Former British Davis Cup player at Wimbledon
It's a bitter pill for Kyle Edmund to swallow.
A couple of hours ago we thought he was about to serve it out.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 4-6 Verdasco
Kyle Edmund is out of Wimbledon.
The British number one had two sets and a break, but has been undone by Fernando Verdasco's longevity, durability and enduring class.

Fernando Verdasco takes the first point after never getting back into a rally started off by a whiplash serve.

Georgina Moore: Oh dear Edmund what happened? I had high hopes for you at this Wimbledon. You had it in the bag, 2 sets to love up and 3 games to love. Massive loss if you lose this!
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 4-5 *Verdasco
A ram-jam ace down the middle helps Kyle Edmund to 40-30 before another similar delivery is patted tamely back by Fernando Verdasco.
Edmund races in and polishes off the scraps.
Verdasco will have to serve this out.

Kyle Edmund frames an eyesore of a forehand long over the baseline for 15-15.

Francesca Gunn: C'mon Edmund you had one job, how have you let this guy back in and by looks of it going onto win.
Leo: Fernando Verdasco is THE comeback King.
*Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 3-5 Verdasco
Fernando Verdasco's ball toss goes missing on his first attempt from the baseline. Some sign of nerves.
Apparently not. He claims the first two points via a big serve and a bona-fide ace.
The Spaniard gleefully leaps into forehand down the line for 40-0.
And a wide serve, at a wicked angle only available to the left-handed player, and forehand back the other way complete the job.

Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV
I honestly do believe. I think there's going to be one opportunity for Kyle to come back in this. It's just a gut feeling.
Edmund 6-4 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 3-4 *Verdasco
Is Fernando Verdasco keeping his powder dry, saving his energy for the two successive service holds he needs to get over the line and into the third round?
He does not look over exerted or over-bothered as he slips to 40-15. But a nice bit of chop and charge sets up a challenging running forehand that Edmund cannot make.
Forty-thirty. But Edmund punches away the backhand volley to round off a perfectly-constructed point to stay in touch...
Auger-Aliassime 6-3 4-6 Moutet
It's all square in the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Corentin Moutet on court three.
