  1. Verdasco holdspublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    *Edmund 1-1 Verdasco

Fernando Verdasco has the look of a tennis pro at an super-luxe club in a tropical resort, who leaves a trail of wrecked guest marriages behind him*.

As smooth as Richard Gasquet's backhand that fella.

He is under a bit of pressure at 30-30, but rains down a couple of brutish tee-off that jerk the racquet out of Kyle Edmund's hand to see off the danger.

    * - should emphasis Fernando is a happily married man himself, this is only in my daydreams of casting a high-end 12-part television drama.

  2. Edmund holdspublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Edmund 1-0 *Verdasco

Fernando Verdasco with a velveteen touch as he dinks over the sliced dropper at 15-0 down.

He might as well have projected it onto the side for the Royal Box though it was so telegraphed.

Edmund scurries in and pokes a winner down the line. A little bit of forehand fire and the game is wrapped up to love.

  3. Expectations hard to deal with for Kylepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Kyle Edmund has a hard time coping with expectations and the pressure. He has the quality to reach the semi-finals but can't keep it up and that's a worrying problem because it won't get any easier.

  4. Edmund to servepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Edmund v Verdasco

It has been a funny season for Kyle Edmund.

He has lost his opening match in seven of 13 events he has played this season.

He has not quite kicked on after making the last four of the Australian Open last year. He reached a career high of 14 in the rankings in October, but has sunk to 30 since then. He made the third round of Wimbledon for the first time last year, losing to Novak Djokovic in four sets.

    He will tee us off...

Game, set and match - Kontaveitpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Watson 5-7 1-6 Kontaveit

The first serve is into the net. A lengthy rally sees Anett Kontaveit, with pinpoint accuracy, find the line and she advances. Great Britain's Heather Watson is eliminated.

Watson held a 2-0 lead in the first set, but that's as good as it got.

Kontaveit is into the third round for a third successive year and plays either Madison Brengle or Karolina Muchova next up.

This was a good moment for Heather Watson, but there have not been too many good ones since.

  8. Players on courtpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Edmund v Verdasco

Kyle Edmund and Fernando Verdasco emerge from the polished pine and frosted glass Centre Court's backstage area and onto the main stage.

An absolute sauna of a day out there. An old lady is fanning herself like Marie Antoinette after a waltz with D'Artagnan.

    Knock up underway.

  9. Karlovic loses third setpublished at 14:21 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Karlovic 3-6 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 1-0 Fabbiano*

Ivo Karlovic's booming serve isn't enough to help him against Italian Thomas Fabbiano, it seems.

The 30-year-old broke Karlovic's serve in the first game of the set and held on to take a 2-1 lead.

  13. 'I'm improving every day on grass'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Puig 0-6 4-6 Pliskova

Third seed Karolina Pliskova said after her victory over Monica Puig that she has been feeling more confident on grass since winning the Eastbourne title last week.

Pliskova will face Taiwanese 28th seed Hsieh Su-wei, who beat Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, in the third round.

"I feel like I'm improving every day on grass," she said. "The title in Eastbourne helped me feel more confident and to get more used to the surface.

"The deeper you go, the better players you play so it's not going to be easy here."

  15. Next up on Centre...published at 14:17 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Edmund v Verdasco

Next up on Centre Court is Kyle Edmund's meeting with Spainish old-timer Fernando Verdasco.

British number one Edmund has lost on both the pair's previous meetings - going down in three sets in Vienna in 2018 and Rome in May.

This is their first ding-dong on the green stuff though - a surface that should suit Edmund's popping foreheand more than Verdasco's clay-court stylings.

On this day six years ago, Verdasco took the first two sets in his quarter-final meeting with Andy Murray, before losing to the eventual champion in five.

    *Watson 5-7 1-4 Kontaveit

This is the real Anett Kontaveit now. The player who has worried some of the best over the past few years.

    She's pulling away.

  19. Postpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

Watson has made more unforced errors - 22 compared to 15 from Kontaveit, who now extends her lead to a three-game advantage. A long way back from here.

  20. 'Watson needs to be more selective'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    Watson 5-7 1-3 Kontaveit*

    Kim Clijsters
Four-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

It feels like Heather Watson is trying to play a little more aggressively but she's not always picking the right ball to hit.

She needs to be more selective rather than trying to hit every ball with pace.
