Marc Scanlon: I think Azarenka's warning was unnecessary. People say players have no character or passion but when they show that they get a warning. Showing a little frustration should be okay but not like Nick [Kyrgios] did which was way worse and didn't get one?? And she wasn't damaging!

Azarenka fought hard to win this game and seeing her reaction she knows how important it was to not give Simona a 2-0 lead in the second set.

    Djoko is winding it up.

Hubi was having the better of rallies, but lactic must set in quicker upon lesser mortals when they play Djokovic.

    0-30.

"COME ON!!!!" Azarenka screams as she fights off a break point in a lengthy service hold. It's important she stays in this.

Djokovic's games seem to be taking about four to five minutes, while Hubi's service games are taking a lot longer.

It doesn't bode well for the big man.

    Halep 6-3 1-0 Azarenka*

Azarenka is still struggling with these errors. She misses a chance to hold at 40-30 when her forehand falls into the net.

But she gives herself a big talking to and a fist pump as she finishes off a rally with a thumping forehand down the line. Moments later, another unforced error... deuce again.

Slight shake of the head from Djokovic as Hurkacz held serve there. So slight you’d probably miss it if you weren’t staring at him like I was.

Nothing can separate these two at the moment. Hurkacz is matching his opponent toe for toe.

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Djokovic has almost looked human at times.

It's the type of game you expect Novak to break there. Credit Hurkacz, he has come in with a good mindset, he's competed well and he's been rewarded for it.

Saved again as Hubi's kicking second serve is whacked back into the net.

Perhaps Djoko should have done better with that.

Hurkacz eventually holds, but he's getting a much harder time of it as his opponent continues to try to grind him down.

If you start to be a little bit more defensive on the shot you're struggling with, for me, it didn't help me - I'd make more mistakes. At times, just focus on one thing. Whatever it is, keep your eye on the ball, just something simple. Azarenka is making easy mistakes now.

Azarenka has her head in her hands on her knees - she cannot believe just how bad the miss at the net was that handed Halep set point.

She had the entire court at her disposal. And found the net instead.

Over on court three, Thomas Fabbiano has broken in the second set but still trails 6-4 2-4 to Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

Verdasco had saved all eight of Fabbiano's break points in the opening set, so that's a breakthrough for the Italian!

    Halep 6-3 Azarenka

Azarenka is losing it a little bit here. It's set up for her to volley into the open court but she ends up slamming it straight into the net.

She is furious with herself, gesturing to her team that she isn't looking at the ball. Halep keeps her cool and breaks again, to take the first set.
