There is only one way to sign off on Super Saturday though... with Andy Murray's blockbuster partnership with Serena Williams in the mixed doubles.
It was worth the wait, as they teamed up on Centre Court to begin their campaign with a 6-4 6-1 win over Andreas Mies and Alexa Guarachi.

Earlier, British number one Johanna Konta fought back from a set down to beat Sloane Stephens, but home fans saw Harriet Dart tumble out against top seed Ashleigh Bartley.
Two-time champion Petra Kvitova is through, but Dutch fourth seed Kiki Bertens is out.
And as for Serena Williams? Well, she warmed up for the day's main event by brushing aside Julia Gorges to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon for the 16th time.

If you're in a rush, then it won't take long to tell you how Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal got on. Both men made short work of their French opponents, with Fed beating Lucas Pouille in 126 minutes and Nadal blasting past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in just 108 minutes.
Nadal plays, Joao Sousa, who outlasted Dan Evans late on Court One, in round four.

"It was a great battle. Danny made an unbelievable battle. It could have been me or him.
"I tried to be focused as much as I could and I knew the crowd was with him. I tried to be focused. I appreciate all the support for him and me.
On his next opponent: "Now I think it's time to rest and enjoy this. Rafael Nadal is a great player and no need to describe him, everybody knows him."

Evans won 167 points in total, Sousa 166. That's not the statistic that decides who wins the match, sadly for the British number three.

After three hours and 56 minutes, and a host of twists, turns, superb shots and missed opportunities, British number three Dan Evans is out.
His match started outside, it finished indoors, and Evans gave everything - but it is Joao Sousa who is through to play Rafa Nadal in round four.

Huge disappointment for Evans, they both fought for so hard for so long. For the match to be lost on a shot like that is bitterly disappointing.
Sousa never gave up and never got frustrated.

The next point brings gasps a plenty from the crowd, who think a succession of Evans shots are going long. They aren't but Sousa still wins it with a backhand winner down the line - that's match-point.
There's no way Evans is going to give up now, but his match ends on a horrible note. He is in control and charging into the net, but fails to dink the ball over.
He has his head in his hands at the net.

Evans has words with himself, and his coach, during the change over, then comes out to do some more fighting.
A big forehand gets him off to a great start but his next shot, a sliced backhand winner on the backfoot as he is moving backwards behind his baseline, is a peach.
So far, so good... but then things go wrong. A Sousa winner, and a over-hit forehand takes us back to 30-all.

There have not been too many holds to love of late, but Sousa gets one here.

That Evans drop backhand slice really is a beaut, especially when he throws it in to win a point after he and Sousa have been battering each other from the baseline.
But the Brit follows it up by putting too much on a forehand, which takes us to 30-all and we are back on the brink again. I am not sure anyone in Court One will have any finger nails left at this rate.
What next? Salvation. Evans chooses to serve-volley, for only the eighth time in the match. It works. He finds a way to win the next rally too, and looks up to his box to see the reaction from his family and friends. Celebration... but more work to do.

More twists. More turns. Evans turns Sousa inside out with his backhand slice and when the Portuguese player goes long with a big forehand, that is break-point number 24 for the Brit.
Can he take it? Not this time. Sousa keeps his cool to convert a couple of overheads, and holds his nerve to hold out.

Twenty minutes ago this place was packed but after watching Serena Williams and Andy Murray ease through to the second round of the mixed doubles, the spectators have scarpered pretty quickly.
In the Royal Box, England gold medal winning netball captain Ama Agbeze looks like she's the last to leave after an enjoyable day watching Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Ashleigh Barty in action.
The groundstaff immediately get to work to prepare the court for Monday's mega day when we will have all the men's and women's last 16 playing.

The crowd are doing their best to lift the British number three and he responds by quickly building a 40-0 lead... a big attempt at a winner misses by an inch or so on the next point, but he does not have to wait long to level the set again thanks to a huge first serve.
