Serena Williams has to get herself even fitter because at that level she can be exposed - especially if nerves come in to play.

Halep moves better than anyone on the tour. Why she thought she couldn't play well on grass I don't know. Maybe it took her a while to figure out. Today was the best match she's ever played and she's just beaten Serena Williams in 55 minutes.

Simona Halep walks up the stairs inside the posh area of Centre Court and greets the Duchess of Cambridge with a little curtsey.

She walks out onto the balcony, almost too quick for those walking with her. She doesn't do anything slowly...

Huge crowds in the Wimbledon grounds as she shows off her trophy. A little wave goodbye as she heads off to greet her family and friends.

Did anyone expect that final to be over so quick?

I'm blown away by how fast Halep wrapped that up. Almost as blown away as Williams was by Halep...

I'm shocked. She obviously is a tremendous and, at this stage in her career, the superior athlete.

But I didn't think it would intimidate Serena Williams as much as it did today.

Serena seemed somewhat shocked, and I didn't think that would be the case with the experience she has.

Halep completely and thoroughly outplayed her. It wasn't even a match.

There's only a handful of times in your life when you feel as though you're in the zone like that and that was one of them.

At the start of the second set you could see that Simona Halep was still that bit better, actually a lot better.

I don't think anyone is going to feel short-changed by the 56 minutes of tennis that they have seen today because they have seen one of the all time great Wimbledon final performances.

It's like a military operation on Centre Court now. The net is already down and being replaced with another for the upcoming men's doubles final.

A team of three carry off the green carpet. The Royal Box is empty. Everyone's off for a breather.

Simona Halep on whether she has ever played a better match: "Never. It was my best match. Serena has always inspired us so thanks for that. it was the first time in front of the Royal Box.

"I had nerves! My stomach was not very well before I came out on court. But I just concentrated on doing my best.

"It was my mum's dream. she said when I was 10 that if I want to do something in tennis it is to play in the Wimbledon final.

"I told people in the locker room that if I win I will get membership for life, it was one of the motivations for me.

"I have changed my game a bit to win more matches on the grass and this year I felt more that I could do more with the ball and I cannot wait to get back next year."

    Unbelievable tennis from Simona Halep.

She put herself in such a bubble mentally and she didn't let herself begin to think about the end of the match.

She said this was a chill year. She really took the pressure off herself.
