Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Simona Halep's serve is very important today. She must get a high percentage of her first serves in.

She seems to be more positive generally on the court recently. That's important. Especially when your record is nine defeats to one win against your opponent.

Down at the practice courts a short time ago was 19-year-old Tom Thelwall-Jones - the Welshman who Simona Halep has been calling her "lucky charm".

That's because he has been her hitting partner at Wimbledon this week.

"It is a little intimidating when you're stood across the net from them for the very first time, you're nervous, then you have a water break and talk to them and they make you feel more comfortable," he tells BBC Sport.

"After the water break it is like hitting with a friend.

"Obviously the level is high but as long as you do what they want you to do to a decent level then they are happy. You get requested back and that's what happened to me with Halep.

"If they want you back you must be doing something right - and she's got to the final so I must be doing something right.

"She has called me her lucky charm and now I'm known as 'Lucky charm'. She got me a ticket for the semi-finals and the final."

Serena Williams and Simona Halep are making their way towards Centre Court.

I bet that walk from the changing room feels ridiculously long today. Here they come.

A great reception as they emerge onto the court. They both look calm and composed.

Marijana Veljovic will umpire this final - her first singles final at Wimbledon.

From Serbia, the 32-year-old umpired the 2016 mixed doubles final and has worked at 32 consecutive Grand Slam events.

She worked the Davis Cup final between France and Croatia last year and was also an umpire at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

  8. 'It could be a blockbuster final'published at 13:54 British Summer Time 13 July 2019

    Williams v Halep

    Chris Evert
18-time Grand Slam singles champion on BBC TV

Which Serena is going to come out and how is she going to handle the nerves?

The nerves affected her at Wimbledon last year, she's been in the final of two of the last three Grand Slams and not produced her best tennis.

I think we have the two best players left in the final. Serena will pounce on that second serve, so it's important Simona Halep gets a high percent of her first serves in.

I think it could be a blockbuster match. You can either embrace the pressure or fear it. You need to have that conviction in your shots.

I'll say Serena Williams in three sets.

Frances Carlin: C'mon Simona Halep! You can do it!

Philip West: Halep in three sets. I want Serena to win, but Halep has been imperious in this tournament, and it’s hard to see her level dropping.

Monty Moncrieff: I *SO* want to see Serena make history today and win her 24th Grand Slam but as we've seen her nerves can get the better of her on the day. I'm absolutely backing Serena, but I just can't write off Simona Halep.

It's a hot day down in the front rows where the cameramen sit. It's definitely sticky on Centre Court.

It's filling up here but still plenty of time for the perfect selfie.

  11. 10 minutes to go!published at 13:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2019

Serena Williams will need to deal with "pressure times 100" when she faces Simona Halep in today's Wimbledon final seeking to equal the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

This is the challenge that got her back out on to the court after almost dying giving birth and the one that keeps her motivated at the age of 37.

The key zones will be return of serve for Halep, taking advantage of any second serves and taking care of her own serve.

If she doesn't get it right on her own serve this could be over very quickly. You can't rely on breaking Serena Williams' serve.

Serena Williams is an old hand at this Wimbledon final malarkey, but what about her opponent today?

Simona Halep is a newbie to this. With only one Grand Slam title to her name - the 2018 French Open - she is the first Romanian to reach the Wimbledon final.

Whoever wins will pocket a whopping £2.35m. My eyes hurt just looking at that number.
