The Guardian's Kevin Mitchell has written an interesting review of the mentality of both players ahead of the final.

"What they both share is a lingering fight with their emotions. Until Halep calmed her outer shell over the past couple of years, she was among the most volatile of competitors on the WTA Tour," he writes., external

"Williams, as she admitted on Thursday after her best performance of the tournament – a 59-minute demolition of Barbora Strycova, external– cannot be sure from day to day how she will handle the pressures and expectations of her calling, even though she is by overwhelming consensus the finest player of her era."

You can be mentally as strong as you want but you still have to deal with the power, poise and tenacity of Serena Williams. Halep has to think she has a chance, but it’s going to be hard.

Simona has been really improving through these Championships. It has been difficult for her to bounce back from a devastating loss at Roland Garros. She can push Serena to the limit. It will be interesting to see how she deals with the power of Serena.

I’m really looking forward to it especially if they can bring their best tennis together. Their playing styles are completely contrasting

The atmosphere is building nicely for the big final on Centre Court. There's quite a crowd listening to the Central Band of the Royal British Legion as they strike up the familiar tune of the James Bond opening credits and then a burst of You Only Live Twice.

But the biggest mass of people appear to be getting stuck in at the champagne tent.

These courts have been packed for the past fortnight but are now eerily empty.

Novak Djokovic is having a hit shortly. He’s just pounding a treadmill in the warm-up area, probably doing more kilometres than most of us would do on our big Saturday morning runs.
