Simona Halep's duties as the new Wimbledon champion are still not over, almost 24 hours later. She doesn't mind.

The Romanian is beaming as she poses in the Royal Box with the Venus Rosewater dish.

The earlybirds inside Centre soon cotton on, with tens dashing across empty rows to get close enough for a priceless snap.

"Congratulations!!" they shout as Halep leaves.

And judging by the cheers from outside shortly after, she must be back on the balcony and showing off her bit of bling again.

  2. Simona and Selbypublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

Simona Halep turned in a winning performance in her post-victory media commitments as well.

The Romanian had Centre Court eating out of her hand with her mixture of her clear joy, gracious tribute to Serena, family anecdotes and account of a morning of nerves and multiple toilet visits.

And then she told Sue Barker why snooker player Mark Selby is one of only two people she bothers following on Twitter...

  6. 'Federer will have to raise his game'published at 12:44 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Djokovic v Federer

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

What I really respect about Novak Djokovic is that he inspires himself [by geeing up the crowd] and plays better. That’s what really matters.

He is one of the all-time great movers on a tennis court. He gets to a lot more balls than people expect. He makes you hit so many extra shots and it drives you nuts!

Can you imagine five or six years ago that he would be trading forehands with Rafa Nadal at his age? It’s unthinkable. He was very good at the net. In three sets he played incredible.

I expect Roger Federer will have to take it up another level to beat this guy. He is a human backboard. It is going to be a tougher task.

Can he do it? Of course he can. But at the moment I see Novak winning in four sets.

Nearby St Mary’s Church dings midday and, like clockwork, the Centre Court groundstaff march out with net posts in hands and a rolled up bit of mesh under the armpit.

Two lucky youngsters are helping them put the net up, some squeaky winding sees the cord rise like a ship’s sail.

And, exactly 10 minutes later, it is good to go. Just another 110 to wait until Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic shake hands across it.

Will it all go a Maximus Decimus Meridius for the world number one as he wins over the crowd and downs Wimbledon's long-standing overlord?

Or will he be more like fellow wheat-field botherer , externalTheresa May and find that 2019 is the year his reign comes to an end?

  10. Nole going AWOL...published at 12:29 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

Novak Djokovic stuck up a story on his Instagram account yesterday.

    And then this....
