*Edmund 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 0-0 Andujar
The first fist pump from Edmund in about an eon and he posts a winner - first class - down the line.
40-15.
*Edmund 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 0-0 Andujar
BTW there was barely much of an applause for Pablo Andujar has he levelled.
There isn't much atmosphere, full stop, on court 13.
*Edmund 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 0-0 Andujar
In the first set the Spaniard only managed to win 27% of points on his second serve.
In the second set it improved to 56%.
It's also fair to say that Edmund's form dramatically dipped.
Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 Blinkova
Chanda Rubin
American former world number six at Flushing Meadows
Disappointment for Blinkova, but nothing to hang her head about, she played a fantastic match and we certainly expect to see a lot more of this young woman as the crowd gives her applause as she walks off the court.
Impressive display but it was Osaka who raised her game at just the right moments in this match.
*Edmund 6-3 6-7 (1-7) Andujar
Edmund's backhand has been awful today - worse than usual - he produces another error.
It follows with one more shot into the net from the British number one.
Edmund was a break up in that set and was cruising.
*Edmund 6-3 6-6 (1-5) Andujar
The Spaniard delivers the ball to Edmund's weaker backhand and the Briton finds the netting again.
Edmund's backhand pick up also fails to navigate its way over the net.
This is bad from the Brit.
Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 Blinkova
Defending champion Naomi Osaka speaking on Arthur Ashe: "I have a lot of really good memories here because I grew up in this area. I don't think I've ever been this nervous in my life.
"I came off really slow and never really found my rhythm. I fought as hard as I could and managed to win.
"You want to do well after you do well last year. I didn't smile much playing this match so hopefully I can change that in the next match.
"It's kind of just a game so I have to remember that. It helps me a lot because I learn from the tougher matches. It helps me to prepare."

Sometimes, its getting through these types of matches, finding a way of elevating your game, that allows you to play better and better, and to relax more and more. Osaka, I think, was able to do that as the match went on, especially in the third set.
It was still tense early on, but she was able to get that break of serve, get up 3-1 and that seemed to relax her more.
Edmund 6-3 6-6 (0-3) Andujar*
Andujar is a mini-break up as Edmund finds the net with a forehand.
Make that two mini-breaks as Andujar produces a stunning winner down the line.
Edmund 6-3 6-6 (0-1) Andujar*
Andujar takes the first point with a great first serve - what a time do it.
Edmund 6-3 6-6 Andujar*
Edmund holds to love.
It's tie-break time.
Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 Blinkova
A stylish way to end - Osaka sprays a lovely backhand winner into the corner.
Job done, into the next round. But my word, that was nervy!
*Edmund 6-3 5-6 Andujar
Edmund has got 'tie-break eyes' as Andujar races to a 40-0 lead.
But wait...what is this?!!!
Edmund produces a drop-shot winner on his backhand.
His first drop!!
Andujar holds anyway.
Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 5-2 Blinkova*
Osaka is racing towards a first-round victory. A comfortable service hold and she's now one game away from the next stage.
Talk about making hard work of it though!
Edmund 6-3 5-5 Andujar*
Edmund holds with a winner from the baseline.
Relatively comfortable - the Briton will now have another chance to break the not-altogether-convincing Andujar serve.
*Edmund 6-3 4-5 Andujar
Edmund eases into a 30-0 lead then allows a return to drop thinking it would land wide - it didn't.
30-15.
40-15.
*Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 4-2 Blinkova
Chanda Rubin
American former world number six at Flushing Meadows
Osaka has mixed her serve up beautifully, she's gone out wide a number of times. She's been keeping Blinkova off balance.
*Edmund 6-3 4-5 Andujar
Andujar now has the lead in this set.
Edmund is under pressure to hold. The tables haven't quite turned - they're about halfway around.
Edmund 6-3 4-4 Andujar*
Andujar looks to his team as again he struggles to get over the line on his serve.
Edmund has a great chance to bring up another break point but he's over-eager with a forehand that dips wide.
He's not happy with himself.
Advantage Andujar.
Double fault.
Deuce.
Osaka 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 4-1 Blinkova*
Osaka faces another break point but then puts down two aces in a row. Seriously!?
But most importantly, the defending champion is back in control and leading 4-1 in the decider.
