    Osaka was four five down, she saved three set points, some of that was maybe helped along a little by her opponent, but then suddenly the shackles came off and when Osaka managed to hold onto her serve.

    She just started ripping winners out everywhere. She was getting excited as she hit them, she was letting out excitement in screeches of celebration.

    Flushing Meadows compared to Wimbledon is a microcosm of how New York differs to London: louder, brighter, brasher.

    Edmund remarked on the atmosphere before the tournament, saying he actually enjoys the razzmatazz.

    A constant chatter can be heard in the stands - that wouldn’t be tolerated at Wimbledon - while exuberant cheers sweep over from Ashe and a raucous court 14 next door where Kazakh Alexander Bublik is playing Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo.

    Edmund is certainly feeding off the noise now, landing some hefty groundstrokes which are troubling Andujar
