  1. Andujar breakspublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Edmund 0-1 Andujar*

A double-handed backhand, which is seemingly very easy to make, is lofted to a spot in between the tramlines.

    That was poor from Edmund.

  2. Postpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Edmund 0-0 Andujar

There are no issues with Edmo's knee at the moment - no visible strapping, and pretty sure no invisible strapping.

He rabbit punches a winner to pull it to 30-30 but then smacks a forehand into the net.

    Break point!

  3. 'What Osaka does on court is stunning'published at 18:05 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Osaka 6-4 0-1 Blinkova

She gives you a lens into her law and shows you that its not all tunnel vision on tennis, which makes her very appealing. She's a lot of fun to listen to, you don't quite know what's coming next, but you also worry about her a bit at times.

Equally, when you just centre on what she does on the court, it is pretty stunning isn't it, to see what she's capable of doing at just the age of 21.

Lime, purple, white and black. Nope, that's not what you've just plucked out of a box of liquorice allsorts. It's Kyle Edmund's latest outfit.

    *Edmund 0-0 Andujar

First point to the Spaniard as Edmund goes wide with a forehand.

Edmund is wearing a bright yellow cap to shield his eyes from the bright yellow sun.

Andujar rushes into the net to win the next point.

    0-30.

  6. Blinkova holdspublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Osaka 6-4 0-1 Blinkova

Well, if Blinkova is going to find a way back into this match, serving like this will help. She throws down a few biggies and storms to a love-hold.

    Edmund v Andujar

We are about to get under way in the match between British number one Kyle Edmund and world number 70 Pablo Andujar on court 13.

It might barely be afternoon but it is never too early for a Honey Deuce.

That's the US Open's trademark drink - fresh lemonade spiked with vodka and a hint of raspberry liqueur. Not to forget the melon garnish.

Karen, from Manhattan, isn't convinced it is worth the $17 she has handed over.

"But it's a tradition here so I've got to do it every year. It's like you guys drinking Pimms at Wimbledon."

  10. Andujar holds (small) upper handpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Edmund v Andujar

Here's some good news/bad news for Pablo Andujar fans.

The good news: the world number 70 has a 100% record against Edmund.

The bad news: he's only played him once before on the ATP Tour.

That actually came in the final of the clay event in Marrakech last year when the 33-year-old beat the Brit 6-2 6-2.

That was Kyle's maiden ATP final. He's still fuming.

  11. Game and first setpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Osaka 6-4 Blinkova

Osaka wins five straight games and from 4-1 down has taken the first set!

She thinks she's done it with an ace but a successful challenge means she has to do it the hard way - thumping a forehand pass on a second serve.

Hard to see how Blinkova will get back into this now.

  12. Osaka breakspublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Osaka 5-4 Blinkova

Naomi is back on track. With her third break point of the set, she takes a 5-4 lead and will serve for the first set.

She was 4-1 down less than 15 minutes ago!

  13. 'How’s the knee? Yeah, it’s fabulous'published at 17:53 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Edmund v Andujar

Kyle is about to walk on to court 13 soon...

As the 24-year-old has advanced in both years and experience, his performances at Flushing Meadows have gradually grown worse.

He reached the fourth round in 2016, the third round the following year and failed to navigate past the opening round last summer. In recent months, "Edmo" has been hampered by a knee problem.

Here are his words: "I feel like I’ve been playing pretty well in the last few events, I had some tough draws but overall it’s been pretty good - it’s nice to feel good.

"How’s the knee? Yeah, it’s fabulous. I’m just going to do my best.

"I’ve trained pretty well but there’s no guarantees, you can't expect just to win because you feel good so you’ve always got to be realistic and try your best."

  14. Cilic's check matespublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Flushing Meadows

Pretty quiet around the Flushing Meadows grounds early doors, with the large square outside Ashe - featuring a tree-lined picnic area and decorative water fountains - relatively peaceful as day ticket holders steadily stream in.

While the punters aren't dressed quite as smartly as the Wimbledon folk, there still isn't loads of nationalistic colour.

That's why Boris and Maureen catch the eye. If you don't immediately recognise the red and white checkboard as Croatian then shame on you.

They were dashing off to watch their compatriot Marin Cilic, who won here in 2014 of course, out on court five against Slovakia's Martin Klizan.

Will Marin win? "Of course. That's my heart and my head saying that," reckons a confident Boris.

After winning nine points in a row, Osaka is back in this. It's all square after four games. Scare over? Or does Blinkova have another gear?

  16. Osaka breaks backpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Osaka 3-4 Blinkova

Where has that been for the last 20 minutes? Finally, Osaka has found her range. She breaks to love with another forehand return.

She's got a cheeky grin on her face now too.

    Osaka 2-4 Blinkova*

A better few minutes for the defending champion. Osaka pulls out two fantastic forehand winners - her fifth and sixth of the match so far - and takes a 30-0 lead against serve.

And another thumping return brings up break point.

  18. 'Some frustration showing on Osaka's face'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Chanda Rubin
American former world number six at Flushing Meadoes

She didn't have to go for such a big forehand such early. Another unforced error and some frustration showing on Osaka's face now. She's got to pull things back a little bit, keep swinging but give herself a chance to work into this match.

  19. Postpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    *Osaka 1-4 Blinkova

Osaka, who has heavy strapping on her left knee, is clearly not comfortable here on Arthur Ashe.

She skews a forehand way over the line and can only look at her racquet with a wry smile. Nothing seems to be going right at the moment.

  20. Osaka gets on the boardpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

    Osaka 1-3 Blinkova*

Top seed Naomi Osaka is finally off the board with a more routine service hold. But so far, 20-year-old Russian Anna Blinkova is showing no signs of nerves.
