And that's all from us for day nine of the 2019 US Open.

Johanna Konta's hopes are over for another year after she was beaten earlier by Elina Svitolina.

Svitolina will now face Serena Williams in the semi-finals following tonight's brutal defeat of Wang Qiang - you can read the report for that one here.

Meanwhile in the men's draw, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev battled through injury against Stan Wawrinka to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final where he awaits the winner of five-time champion Roger Federer's match against Grigor Dimitrov which takes place later tonight.

We'll be back tomorrow with coverage of British pair Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski's doubles quarter-final and some more singles action too.

Goodnight and thanks for joining us!

    Williams 6-1 6-0 Wang

More from Serena Williams, who says: "Being American and being able to play at your home Grand Slam is always interesting and fun. I grew up watching the US Open and trying to get here. It is the first place where I won one of my 23 Grand Slams so it is always something special to come out on this court."

On her semi-final opponent Elina Svitolina, Williams adds: "She has had a great year, made the semi-finals at Wimbledon and I feel like she wants to go one further so I have to come out again and play well. I'm ready and happy."

  3. 'I'm feeling good'published at 01:15 British Summer Time 4 September 2019

    Williams 6-1 6-0 Wang

Serena Williams, who is told that this was her 100th victory at US Open, says: "Wow. It's really unbelievable from when I first started here at 16 I never thought I would get to 100. It never crossed my mind I would still be here. I love coming out in front of you guys and I never want to let it go.

"When I play someone who is playing well I have to step up or go home and I'm not ready to go so I knew I needed to come out tonight and play well. I'm feeling good, had a really tough year and I'm still here. Physically I'm feeling great and more importantly I'm having fun every time I come out here."

Let's not forget that Wang defeated second seed Ashleigh Barty in straight sets to reach this stage.

That was mightily impressive stuff from Serena Williams. What will semi-final opponent Elina Svitolina possibly have thought watching that?

You wouldn't for one second bet against Williams taking that record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title on tonight's showing.

Serena Williams is currently speaking in front of the crowd and barely looks like she's started her warm-up.

We'll bring you her words shortly.

Zach Kingsbury: I made a cup of tea at the start of that second set. It's still warm.

Kyle: Serena Is such a perfectionist and such a great champion that she will probably be a little bit disappointed she hasn't won 6-0 6-0. That said the way Wang has played this tournament she didn't deserve that and I'm glad she has won at least a game.

Sulaimon Adelekan: This is the most one sided contest I have seen in a long while. Serena Williams has been top top notch. Another step closer to the Margaret Court record.

    Williams 6-1 6-0 Wang

Wang Qiang hits long and wide, before Serena unleashes a forehand winner down the centre of the court to take a 30-0 lead.

She fails with her next forehand attempt however, but Wang hands the American match point which, inevitably in this form, she takes.

That was some display from Williams, and quite a lesson for Wang.

And just like that, Serena Williams will serve for the match.

She gives away a point before landing two scintillating forehand winners and leave Wang chasing shadows.

After 40 minutes, Williams is one hold of serve away from a semi-final against Elina Svitolina.

A backhand winner, a smashing volley, another backhand winner and another game to love for Serena Williams.

There's just no stopping her in this form.

And there's certainly no sense that her ankle is bothering her this evening.

This has been such a mismatch that the loudest cheer of the night comes when Queen Latifah appears on the big screen.

    *Williams 6-1 3-0 Wang

Every time Wang Qiang appears to be moving in the right direction, Serena Williams dents her confidence even further.

It's a break to love for the six-time US Open champion, as Wang fails to land a backhand and the demolition job continues.

    Williams 6-1 2-0 Wang*

A glimmer of promise from Wang Qiang, as she pins Williams back in a rally that engages the crowd and culminates in Williams hitting the net at 40-0 down.

She takes another point as she begins to gain a foothold, but Williams bides her time before unleashing an accurate forehand to steady the ship.

Not a set to get the Ashe crowd going. Of course they are delighted their girl is cruising, but it means there is an air of expectance lingering in the atmosphere rather than fervent passion.

    *Williams 6-1 1-0 Wang

You've really got to feel for Wang Qiang, as Serena Williams picks up from exactly where she left off at the end of the first set.

Four winners, three on the backhand, and Williams is well on her way to a 100th victory at Flushing Meadows.

But Serena will not be held back for long.

She rounds off a sizzling first set with a huge forehand hit to hold to love and heads to her chair looking like she's yet to break a sweat.

That took 23 minutes. Wang looks shell-shocked.

Oooof. There's no getting that one as Williams blasts yet another winner beyond the reach of Wang Qiang to move two points from the set at 30-0.

Wang battles well to level at 30-30 and manages to wrestle control of the point, forcing Williams back to turn the game around.

There's a huge sigh of relief as she holds her nerve to take her first game.

The New Yorkers are a tardy bunch. Ashe is hardly ever full for the first few games. Even for the Queen of Flushing Meadows.

    Williams 5-0 Wang*

A much more promising game from Wang Qiang, who is able to momentarily find her swing.

She draws level at 15-15, but that's as close as she's allowed to get as Serena Williams smashes another composed forehand winner on her way to another straightforward hold.

The American is one game away from the opening set on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

This is so impressive from Serena Williams.

Wang Qiang still can't get a hold of these rallies and Williams batters her way to break point before Wang strikes the net at 15-40 down.

Another break with less than 15 minutes played and Wang has it all to do.
