    Svitolina 6-4 2-2 Konta*

Konta produced some good work in that fourth game, but can't do enough of it as Svitolina holds on to that serve. The second set is proving as tense as the beginning of the first was.

Dr Peter Hoare: Sorry who is John Poole (see 18:07 entry)? Never heard of him - how many Grand Slams has he won? “female Henman”? Give her a chance - many said the same about Andy Murray’s GS prospects.....

  3. 'Konta must break up Svitolina's play'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    *Svitolina 6-4 1-2 Konta

Svitolina is solid from the back of the court, she chases everything and she puts pressure on you by sending so many balls back.

She's making Konta feel like she has to do more. Konta needs to do the things that break up Svitolina's game with more conviction.

Svitolina has made it difficult for her, but this has been a good start to the second set by Konta and if she can get a break and get her nose in front it could make all the difference.

    *Svitolina 6-4 1-2 Konta

A reminder that Johanna Konta has never beaten Elina Svitolina in their previous four meetings, although today is the first time they've played each other in a Slam.

If Konta plays more shots like we've just seen, a cracking two-handed backhand down the line, then she will have a chance.

    *Svitolina 1-2 Konta

An ace out wide - Konta's third ace of the match - followed by a slight fist pump brings the third game of the second set to a quick conclusion. Just like set one, no early chances for a break on either side, yet.

    *Svitolina 6-4 0-1 Konta

    Judy Murray
Tennis coach at Flushing Meadows on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Svitolina needs to make sure she's making the first serves and not let Konta get ahead of her in this second set.

Konta needs to use the variety a little more. The drop shots have worked well, Svitolina is comfortable at the back of the court and you need to pull her off the baseline with the drop shots and tight angles.

A service hold to love from Johanna Konta is just what she needs to erase any negativity from losing set one.

What a volley from Konta! A stunned volley which had more backspin than a Tiger Woods approach.

Unfortunately it didn't help save the opener, a poor shot selection - and execution - handing over the second set point.

John Poole: Think it's about time that people realised that Konta hasn't got a slam in her. Semis will always be as far as she will go. The female version of Henman.

    Svitolina 6-4 0-0 Konta*

    Judy Murray
Tennis coach at Flushing Meadows on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Svitolina was the slightly more consistent in that first set.

Her serve helped her when it needed to - and that's something she's not always been particularly big on.

You have to be playing well to get anything out of Svitolina. Konta had two bad misses, which came at the worst possible time for her.

    Svitolina 6-4 0-0 Konta*

Konta, long and there goes the first set.

Not much in it, but Svitolina does enough and is halfway there to a semi-final against either seven-time champion Serena Williams or China's Qiang Wiang.

Konta knocked out third seed Karolina Pliskova in the last 16 after losing the opening set and she is going to have to go the distance again to keep her US Open adventure going on.

    That was incredible.

It was a decent pass, finding Johanna Konta around the ankles but she left Svitolina with no chance of getting that ball back.

    This is a crucial time.
