  1. 'Bad misses from Konta'published at 18:38 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    *Svitolina 6-4 4-3 Konta

That was a stunning pass from Svitolina. There were two bad misses from Konta in that game and another great rally in which Svitolina comes out on top.

Just when we thought there was some hope, Konta handed Svitolina some cheap points.

  2. Svitolina instantly regains the advantagepublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    Svitolina 6-4 4-3 Konta

A lovely passing shot from Svitolina sees her instantly regain control of this set. Konta broke, and is instantly broken again, just as what happened in set one.

Svitolina now 4-3 ahead, two service holds from the final four. Konta back facing an uphill task once more.

Konta broke in the first set and was then immediately broken minutes later in the next game. This could be a case of deja vu as she's 0-40 down, Svitolina with three break points.

Johnny Bowe: To win a slam Konta needs to improve her mental side, do more intensity training and try a new coach, someone who coached a champion.

  6. 'Stroke of genius'published at 18:35 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

Konta knows what she wants to do - it's just about doing that consistently.

I never saw that shot coming, it was a remarkable drop shot. Svitolina didn't see that coming at all.

A stroke of genius from Konta there.

  7. Konta breaks backpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    Svitolina 6-4 3-3 Konta*

A beautiful drop shot, played perfectly, leaves Svitolina scrambling. She can only dribble the ball into the bottom of the net and the Ukrainian, knowing her second set advantage has just evaporated, swats the air in frustration.

Well played Johanna, and we're back on serve.

David: Funny how there is often a reaction to beating a seed and playing a really good match. Same thing happened to Osaka. Let’s hope for a different outcome this time. Go Konta.

Svitolina is a very gutsy competitor. She goes quietly about her business but she's a very determined player.

We're at deuce in this game. Is this the start of the Konta fightback or a false dawn?

  12. Postpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    *Svitolina 6-4 3-2 Konta

Konta needs this one. She is 15-30 on the Svitolina serve. She won't get many more chances, but this is an opportunity to bring the second set back to all square.

  13. 'The errors are setting in'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

The thing Konta hasn't done as well as I expected her to is her serve.

Whether that's Svitolina being solid on the return or Konta not being as accurate, I'm not sure - but in the last few games we've seen the errors setting in.

You can't afford to do that against someone like Svitolina, she will make you pay. When Konta gets opportunities she must do something with them.

    *Svitolina 6-4 3-2 Konta

Why is Johanna Konta losing? Twenty-five unforced errors, compared to only 11 from her opponent, is a large reason why.

  15. Svitolina breakspublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 3 September 2019

    *Svitolina 6-4 3-2 Konta

It is a long way back now for the British number one. She is a set and a break down. She saved one break point but can't do the same when the world number five has a second chance.

Svitolina can see her first US Open semi-final in the distance.

Svitolina senses a vulnerability in Konta's second serve.

With it down at 47%, the Ukrainian has stepped inside the baseline to try and punish it further.

Marcus Mee: Konta may not win a slam but that shouldn't be a stick to beat her with. Should be given more respect for getting to the sharp end of every slam...she's taking the brunt of there being no one else in touching distance.

A backhand cross-court for Svitolina aiming for the break, but she puts too much power into it, it is out and Konta survives that one. Deuce.

Svitolina has started to back off a little bit and I think that's because of the power Johanna Konta has started returning the ball with.

Konta needs to sense that and use it.
