Abid: Rafa isn't at his best but still has the first set. Went up a gear in the last game. I would be surprised if Medvedev won a set here, really needs to improve to have a chance.

Medvedev is certainly holding his own, but can he push Nadal? Can he make him nervous?
*Medvedev 5-7 0-1 Nadal
Advantage Nadal again as Medvedev shoots long. He challenges the call of out but it was correct.
Nadal holds with an unstoppable serve that Medvedev can only deflect out of the court.
Medvedev 5-7 0-0 Nadal*
He doesn't take his opportunity, snatching a backhand into the net. A bit of muttering under his breath.
He can't clear the net on the next point, gifting advantage to Nadal who looks cool, calm and collected. Until, that is, he nets a return himself...
Back to deuce.
Medvedev 5-7 Nadal*
Medvedev responds well to going a set down in this final, winning the first two points on Nadal's opening serve but the Spaniard fights back to level.
But Medvedev is fighting too, and brings up break point with a forehand into the corner.

Medvedev is not going to give up. I just want to know what his frame of mind is.

The pressure finally told. Nadal ekes up the intensity a notch at the crucial time, patiently waiting before unleashing that forehand to bring up two set points.
The Spaniard won an impressive 45% of receiving points on his way to the opener.
Michael Douglas certainly approved. The Hollywood legend goes mad - like the majority of Ashe - as Nadal seals it.

Sam: First set in the bag, I think it's smooth sailing from here on right? Let's go Rafa, let's do this in 3 sets.
Lee Fergusson: Nadal wins the set and that could well be the match already...massive mountain needed for Medvedev

Rafa knew what he was going to do. Perfect.
Medvedev 5-7 Nadal
Nadal messes up the first but doesn't scupper the second! He goes for the lob, Medvedev stretches but can only send it into the net.
First blood Rafael Nadal.
*Medvedev 5-6 Nadal
An aggressive Nadal goes 30-0 up with a backhand, taking advantage of Medvedev's wide position on the court. Medvedev pulls a point back as Nadal nets but the Spaniard gets two break points and two set points with a stunning forehand into the corner.
*Medvedev 5-6 Nadal
Nadal opens up his service game with the first two points but then fires long on the next.
It's lovely play from Nadal as he takes his time at the net, waiting for Medvedev to move in one direction and then slamming a winner in the other.
Medvedev comes into the net to take the next point but can't stop the hold.

I really feel Nadal has got the momentum here. He's very aggressive off his service games.

It's the first time he's really overpowered Nadal on the cross-court backhand.
Medvedev 5-5 Nadal*
A cracking ace down the T seals another advantage for Medvedev.
Courtesy of a Nadal backhand into the net, this time he holds.
That game lasted just over seven minutes.
*Medvedev 4-5 Nadal
Brilliant from Medvedev as he puts an overhead smash away for the advantage again. Can he capitalise on it this time? Nope.
He goes for the lob over Nadal's head but the Spaniard simply reaches up and slams it down.
Deuce number four.
*Medvedev 4-5 Nadal
The fist advantage goes Medvedev's way as he sends down his first ace of the match, but Nadal brings us back to deuce.
It's advantage Medvedev again as he wrong-foots Nadal with his forehand, but it's back to deuce again as Medvedev hits just too long. He challenges it but the line judge's call was correct.
