Warm-ups done and dusted. Very last preparations under way.

For the superstitious Rafa Nadal, that's getting his drinks bottles perfectly positioned at the foot of his chair. Always fascinating to watch.

Medvedev is built for speed. He's here for a reason. He's been born and bred for this situation.

He's a chess player, but Nadal has three or four more pieces than him.

While Flushing Meadows does not have an equivalent of Henman Hill, it does have South Plaza where most of the Ashe ticket holders hang out before the match.

The line for the Honey Deuce - the vodka-based, punchy, signature cocktail of the US Open - is always lengthy.

Others wait patiently in the food village, where you can grab staples like fried chicken, tacos or poke, while others rest (or snooze) in the Arthur Ashe Commemorative Garden at the back of the plaza.

And those lucky enough to have tickets for inside the stadium head to the sign which every tennis fan dreams they can walk underneath on finals day...

Medvedev is lanky but he's able to cover the court very very well in a couple of steps.

He plays like Rafa on the return, stands a long way back, which means he has to come forward quickly but he glides across the court.

    He's a very good mover.

Medvedev speaking pre-final: "I'm going to give everything I've got. To play against someone like Rafa is a pleasure. I've tried to follow my routine and be as calm as possible. I just need to show my best."

Nadal speaking pre-final: "He's playing unbelievably. I know I have to play my best and I hope to be able to make that happen. It means a lot to be back here in this amazing stadium."

A mixed welcome for Daniil Medvedev onto court. Polite applause with the odd boo thrown in for good measure.

Rafa Nadal, meanwhile, receives a hero's welcome.

I think Rafa is absolutely ruthless. I'm very, very impressed by Medvedev's spirit.

He is a real competitor. When he gets into the groove, he just doesn't miss and he can go for decent periods of time constantly and consistently putting pressure on Rafa.

    I expect some marathon rallies.

Will Daniil Medvedev be on his best behaviour?

Some of his actions over the past two weeks have not endeared him to the New York crowd, goading them with his provocative post-match celebrations and interviews.

He was booed off court after his third-round and fourth-round wins but has since apologised for his behaviour, which has included angrily snatching towels from ball people and curtly 'thanking' the American fans for jeering him.

I wonder which Medvedev we will see tonight.

    All set.

This was the scene on Ashe a few moments ago as the majority of fans still mill about on the concourses in the steep stands.

Not many obvious signs of Russian fans outside, it must be said...

It's a interesting match-up. There are similarities to last night. Medvedev was very successful and quite often players who have success in the few weeks go on to have success in the US Open. This is the ultimate test.

Outside the Arthur Ashe Stadium, as those of you have been to Flushing Meadows (and regular readers) will know, there is the Court of Champions. Basically, a curved concrete wall with gold honours boards placed in the middle.

Rafael Nadal already his name etched on it three times. Will it be a fourth time?

In case you missed last night's action (where WERE you?!), 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu stunned Flushing Meadows into silence as she defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams in straight sets to win the women's title.

According to her Instagram story, she spent last night enjoying a little bit of a party with her nearest and dearest with the champagne deservedly flowing, while today she's been parading her trophy around New York.

She'll never forget these 24 hours! Well, depending on how many glasses of champers she had...

    This man needs no introduction.

Rafael Nadal is the favourite to lift the trophy on Arthur Ashe Stadium tonight.

He's already a three-time champion around these parts and victory in the Big Apple would mark his second Grand Slam title of the year, and number 19 of his career.

He's dropped just one set throughout the tournament so far, and beat tonight's opponent Medvedev in straight sets to win the Rogers Cup last month.

Looking to win his first Grand Slam title tonight is Daniil Medvedev.

Ranked fifth in the world, the 23-year-old Russian is widely tipped to be the man to finally knock the 'Big Three' of Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer off their perch.

He came into the US Open as the form player on the ATP Tour having enjoyed a successful hard-court swing, winning the title in Cincinnati as well as reaching the finals in Washington and Montreal.

He is the first Russian to reach a men's Grand Slam final since Marat Safin at the 2005 Australian Open.
