Nadal takes back control though, a drop shot securing 40-15 before he flips a forehand long.
He holds on the next serve.

Some sublime tennis on show in the opening point of this set. A brilliant rally in which both players sent the other hurtling around the court. Great athleticism but it's Medvedev who eventually nabs it.
He gets the next and then sends down his third ace of the match to bring up 40-0.
Nadal slams a forehand down the line to salvage a point but nets the next for a Medvedev hold.

He can't shut them up though when Nadal holds to seal the set, a roar from the Spaniard echoed around Arthur Ashe.

At 15-0 down, Medvedev hits a lovely backhand cross-court to level. On the next rally, Nadal nets a backhand but levels at 30-30.
Medvedev then goes long and Nadal has set point.

Medvedev replies with a forehand down the line but he can only send one from Nadal high into the sky.
Nadal holds as Medvedev overhits on the next point. Nadal is quickly closing in on this second set.
