And why would you want to? Knowing Andy, we're about to have another night of highs, lows and more drama than an Eastenders omnibus.

Mr Murray is about to come out onto an empty Ashe, under the roof, to play his second-round match against Canadian 15th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

  3. Outside courts off for the nightpublished at 01:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

We've had official confirmation that play on the outside courts is off for the night because of the ongoing rain.

That means Dan Evans will have to come back on Friday to finish off his second rounder with Corentin Moutet, which is delicately poised at one set all with Evans holding a point to force a third-set tie-break.

Meanwhile, under the roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Serena Williams leads Margarita Gasparyan by a set and a break.

Once that match is over, we'll be back for live radio and text commentary of Andy Murray v Felix Auger Aliassime.

Right. We shall be back very soon with live text commentary of Andy Murray's potentially very difficult match against Canadian 15th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime on Arthur Ashe.

We all hope the rain stops on the other courts.

  6. Dimitrov done forpublished at 00:38 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

Grigor Dimitrov, who ousted Roger Federer on his way to the semi-finals here last year, is a goner.

The 14th seed lost in five sets to Hungary's Marton Fucsovics, who will now play the winner of another five setter - Frances Tiafoe.

    American Tiafoe beat Australia's John Millman 7-6 (8-6) 3-6 1-6 6-3 6-3.

  7. Brit Konta beaten by world number 77published at 00:38 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

Earlier, Jo Konta saw her hopes of at least emulating her run to the last eight last year evaporate at the hands of Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

The British number one suffered a 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 defeat by the world number 77.

"My opponent played better than me, that's really about it," said Konta.

"She obviously raised her level and then we were battling toe-to-toe. She was better in the end."

  9. Williams begins second-round matchpublished at 00:33 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

Six-time champion Serena Williams has got her second-round match against Russian Margarita Gasparyan under way on Arthur Ashe. The roof closed as the rain clouds threatened above.

Williams, 38, is the third seed here.

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

Don't fear... there is still tennis going on, people. Sleeping is overrated anyway.

The roof is going over on Ashe and Armstrong.

Not sure when we will see Dan Evans and Corentin Moutet again... heavy rain and a thunderstorm is set to hover over Flushing Meadows for the next half an hour, apparently.

  11. game, set and match

Inglot & Qureshi knocked out in first roundpublished at 00:25 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    Inglot/Qureshi 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (2-7) 6-7 (5-7) Sock/Withrow

On court six, Americans Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow have defeated Briton Dom Inglot (a semi-finalist in 2015) and Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi in a tight match that contained three tie-breaks.

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

    Off. Everybody off.

The players are wandering away from the court. Seems Eva Asderaki-Moore was calling the American meteorology office.

What a blow. Such a crucial moment of the match too.

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

Corentin Moutet already has his bag on his shoulder, ready to scarper. There's not much rain, not by Manchester standards anyway.

No-one seems to know what's happening. Lots of standing around.

  14. Postpublished at 00:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

We're pausing. Eva Asderaki-Moore is on the blower back to base as Dan Evans takes a pew on an advertising hoarding.

  15. Postpublished at 00:17 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

What's happening here? Evans is on game point but is unhappy with the surface, saying he is slipping on the baseline. Is that rain or sweat? Looks dark but that's largely because the New York night-time is rolling in.

  16. Postpublished at 00:15 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

He's gone for another one! This time Moutet just misses the line - a smart leave by Evans? - but he gets another chance when the Brit double faults.

Smart serving digs him out of that hole...

  17. Set point Moutetpublished at 00:14 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

Uh oh. Dan Evans in bother here.

At 30-30, Corentin Moutet pulls another lob out of the hat and tees up set point.

"Daylight lobbery!" exclaims the television commentator. Brilliant.

  18. Postpublished at 00:12 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

Blimey O'Reilly! Is that time already?

It is Serena o'clock. The night session is about to kick off on Ashe.

The American great - and third seed - takes on Russia's Margarita Gasparyan.

Again, Dan Evans serves to stay in the set...

  20. Postpublished at 00:10 British Summer Time 4 September 2020

    *Evans 6-4 3-6 5-6 Moutet

Evans is chasing that forehand a little too much. Another ripper from the Brit is too much as Moutet moves within a point of the hold.

And another one! Evans hammers another forehand - this time wide - to let Moutet off the hook.

Evans stands motionless for a good 20 seconds, hands on hips, like a fast bowler just whacked for four at Lord's.
