Ooof! A decent first serve from Moutet - clocked at 123mph, which is good pace for the 5ft 9in Frenchman - catches Evans by surprise and he holds.

Evans 6-4 3-6 3-1 Moutet*
Hang on, they're not turning up at a Buddhist school near you yet, these two.
Moutet threatens to nuke a racquet when he whacks a backhand wide. Going, going... a stay of execution.
The racquet finally goes - more of a throw than a smash - when Moutet plants a double-handed backhand into the tramlines.
*Evans 6-4 3-6 2-1 Moutet
The quietest these two have been for a while. Almost zen-like as Evans cracks down a service winner for a 30-15 lead....
*Evans 6-4 3-6 2-1 Moutet
Moutet is on the board in the third set with a relatively comfortably hold.
Evans shakes his head at the changeover as he glugs down an electrolyte-boosting energy gel and nibbles on a banana.
While the British men's number one battles to say hello to the third round, his female counterpart says goodbye to Flushing Meadows...

Evans 6-4 3-6 2-0 Moutet*
Sealed with an ace. Evans finally drags himself over the line with a serve out wide.
Hang on... Moutet is challenging it. What's the point? You're not going to beat a computer, mate.
Of course, we're shown it is on the line. Otherwise it would have been called by the electronic system, Corentin.
*Evans 6-4 3-6 1-0 Moutet
Dan Evans save that break point as Moutet pushes a wild forehand wide.
The Brit still isn't happy. "It's not good enough mate. Next point, next point here, it doesn't matter."
And then it is advantage Evans after Moutet coughs up another unforced error on the forehand side.
*Evans 6-4 3-6 1-0 Moutet
"Three errors. IN A ROWWWW!!"
Dan Evans is FURIOUS with himself. The caps lock is necessary to illustrate the point.
I don't need to say anything else, really. Break point for Moutet...
*Evans 6-4 3-6 1-0 Moutet
Blimey... a fourth break point for Evans. Moutet can't shake him off.
Pressure on the Frenchman's second serve, but he lands it and a baseline battle takes place between the pair.
Evans keeps forcing Moutet back and it is Moutet who eventually gets a forehand return all wrong.
A racquet drop and a Gallic shrug tells you everything.
Evans 6-4 3-6 0-0 Moutet*
Is this third time lucky for Evans? Nope. The British number one puts himself into a good position, but undoes the good work by planting a volley long.
Evans 6-4 3-6 0-0 Moutet*
Tres bien! (I've exhausted my French GCSE-standard phrases, don't worry...)
A brilliant response from Moutet turns the game around, cracking a superb forehand winner down the line on the second after showing some super athleticism to reach it.
Even Evo taps his racquet in appreciation.
Inglot/Qureshi 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (2-7) Sock/Withrow
On court six, Jack Sock and Jackson Withrow have won the second set on a tie-break to draw level against Briton Dom Inglot and Pakistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.
We go to a decider.
Evans 6-4 3-6 0-0 Moutet*
Anyway, while I continue to wish I was there (it's just a joke, guys, I'm fully aware there are bigger problems out there)... the third set is under way.
Moutet serving first and Evans immediately earns two break points...
Looking a bit overcast in Queen's as we see the long shot back over to the Manhattan skyline.
Not annoyed. Not annoyed. Not annoyed.
I'd much rather be in Manchester than Manhattan. Especially when my view is the scaffolding of a building site outside.

I saw a few approach shots in the second set not hit the mark for Evans.
In a lot of that set Evans was not being particularly precise. He also got found out five or six times moving forward.
The Brit has come off the court to get a breather.
Evans 6-4 3-6 Moutet
All square! A poor pick-up from Evans is thumped away by Moutin's trusty left arm.
"What a set," laments Evans.
*Evans 6-4 3-5 Moutet
The British number one finds himself in a sticky spot at 30-30. Moutet two points away from the set... make that one.
Evans aggressively goes for a forehand and overcooks it. Set point Moutet..
*Evans 6-4 3-5 Moutet
Right then Evo, you need to hold to stay in the set.
(Pretty sure he can't hear me, this is for your benefit. Think you know too.)
*Evans 6-4 3-5 Moutet
This is where Moutet - and my Wi-Fi - came unstuck last time.
Will we have a different outcome here? For Moutet... yes. For us... well, we will see if you can read this entry before 23:14.
No nerves for Moutet this time, who clinches a quick hold to love with a deft volley which Evans reaches but can't put over the net.
Evans 6-4 3-4 Moutet*
If the ATP rankings was based on a player moaning, these two would be comfortably in the top 10.
More chuntering at the changeover. Moutet wants his racquet restringing, Evans, well, I don't know.
