    Needs to retune that forehand.

Kayley Jay: I'm a bit divided today... my gut says Thiem will win. However, after writing both players' names on slips of paper and pulling one out of a box, I picked Zverev.

Lee Fergusson: Here we go...it is time for Zverev-Thiem...I think Thiem will win but I hope it is a great final

  9. Most our matches are on the edge - Thiempublished at 21:16 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

    Thiem v Zverev

Dominic Thiem is up on the microphone next, speaking about his fourth major final: "It feels great to be in another Slam final of course but everything else is different to the last times, these strange times.

"But I think we can make a great exciting match and I'll try everything to win.

"I'm expecting a pretty open match again like in Australia where we had a great level and it was super close. Most of our matches are on the edge and either can win - I'm expecting the same today."

Thiem came across a little bit nervous in that interview. I'm sure there are massive nerves for him, he is the one who is expected to win. He needs to try and get rid of that as soon as possible and get off to a flying start.

Zverev has been much talked about, it's a big moment for him, he's done it the hard way but it's a good sign that he's managed to get to the final. But it is Thiem's final, the way he has been playing.

  12. I need to start faster - Zverevpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

    Thiem v Zverev

Alexander Zverev, speaking in his on-court interview, on playing in his first Grand Slam final: "I'm happy to be here, probably the toughest match I am going to play at the US Open. I'm ready for it, I'm excited for it but it won't be easy.

"I need to start faster than the last two matches, I don't think Dominic is someone who will give up a lead."

  13. Zverev's route to the finalpublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

    Thiem v Zverev

Zverev has enjoyed an easier passage to the final than Thiem - on paper, at least.

The German, who is bidding to become the first male Grand Slam champion from his country since Boris Becker at the 1996 Australian Open, has not faced an opponent ranked inside the world's top 25.

And he was helped in part by Djokovic's exit on his side of the draw.

Apart from his straight-sets win over Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last 16, Zverev has faced obstacles particularly in a difficult semi-final.

    Thiem v Zverev

Thiem has grown confidently into his role as the second seed, and then tournament favourite after Djokovic's exit, over the fortnight.

Impressively he has dropped only one set - against 2014 champion Cilic - in his previous six matches.

Another major statement was made when he saw off Medvedev, who had barely been troubled on serve throughout the tournament, in a gritty performance.

Yup, after his doubles win with Gordon Reid on Saturday sadly for Briton Alfie Hewett it was 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-3) defeat against Japan's Shinigo Kunieda in the men's wheelchair final as he looked to win his third successive title.

  16. Head to head: Thiem v Zverevpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

Yes, he has a seven and two record against him and beaten him in the three time they've met at Grand Slams, but Dominic Thiem isn't thinking this match is a given.

"I won't change my mindset at all. I know what Sascha is capable of," said the Austrian.

"I will go in like in the previous six matches. From the moment Novak Djokovic was out of the tournament, it was clear that there's going to be a new Grand Slam champion.

"From that moment on, that was also out of my mind. I was just focusing on the remaining guys left in the draw.

"For me, it really doesn't matter whether it's Sascha or one of the 'Big Three'. I just try to go in there and give my best."
