Zverev is playing perfect tennis. In the matches we'd seen before this he'd barely come into the net - here he's winning every time he comes into the net.

    Thiem 2-5 Zverev*

    Oh good grief.

Double fault and it's break point.

Thiem then goes wide with his forehand following a second serve.

His level is so much lower than what he achieved in the semi against Medvedev.

He needs a cuddle... or pep talk.

    *Thiem 2-4 Zverev

30-30 before Thiem launches his first ace beyond the forehand reach of his opponent.

Zverev then finds the sweet spot with a whipped forehand down the line.

    Deuce once more.

    *Thiem 2-4 Zverev

Thiem's backhand - his stronger side - is letting him down. A single hander barely makes it midway up the netting.

    15s each.

Game. Yet another hold to love for the German.

Has he got somewhere to go?

    21 minutes played.

    Thiem 2-3 Zverev*

Thiem stares down the court as Zverev fires down another ace to go 30-0 up.

    Make that 40-0.

Zverev is a totally different player. To get to the final he sort of limped his way here but this is a totally different Zverev in this final.

    Thiem 2-3 Zverev*

Worth reminding you all that Thiem lost the first set when the pair met at the semis in Australia earlier in the year.

    Thiem 2-3 Zverev*

By holding. Thiem appears to be running more freely now in rallies.

He needs to break back soon though.

    *Thiem 1-3 Zverev

A flicked angled forehand into the corner surprises Thiem.

    Deuce.

How will the second seed respond?

    *Thiem 1-3 Zverev

Two Thiem errors and it's 0-30. Worrying signs.

But the Austrian four-time Slam finalist gets into his rhythm in a rally and forces an error from Zverev before he produces a wicked forehand winner.

    30-30.

    *Thiem 1-3 Zverev

Leon Smith is right - Thiem looks very heavy-legged. Did that semi against Medvedev take a lot out of him?

    Zverev holds to love.

James Stevenson: A nervous start from Thiem, somewhat surprisingly. But if the last match proved anything he certainly doesn’t get bogged down in playing catch up.

    Thiem 1-2 Zverev*

Zverev hasn't had to do much to get this break except for stay in the points. It helps that his serve hasn't let him down early in the match unlike his opponent.

    He's loose, very loose.

Zverev deserves his lead, he started his own service game brilliantly and another good sign is he is going after his forehand. Thiem looks a bit heavy-legged.

    Thiem 1-2 Zverev*

The Austrian pre-match favourite can't save the second though - a backhand into the net and he's broken.

    Was this in the script?

    *Thiem 1-1 Zverev

Zverev edges closer to the net foot by foot like someone who's about to surprise his mate, and then dispatches a winner.

    0-15.

    15-15.

Before Thiem records a double fault - just his 14th of the tournament.
