That feeling of tension I talked about earlier? It has been replaced. The mood is now subdued.

This is becoming a real challenge (for Federer) ... amid the silence.

Mannarino breaks. Federer is in trouble.

    *Struff 1-3 Medvedev

Better from Jan-Lennard Struff, who found his way to two break points in a mammoth Medvedev service game, but the Russian held firm to see both of them off, and keep his nose in front.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Two

Really important moments at the start of this third set for the context of this match.

Don't think I have seen Federer miss so many balls. Just goes to show I don't think he's confident in his timing.

    *Federer 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 0-1 Mannarino

There have been a few of those from Roger Federer today, mishits that seem to jar off the frame. And from there Adrian Mannarino takes a vital opening hold.

    Federer 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 0-0 Mannarino*

And all of a sudden it's deuce. Was that double the break Roger Federer needed? But no - it's Mannarino who gets the luck! Federer is ready to pick him off at the net, but a backhand catches the cord and leaps away from the Swiss.

That seems to fuel Federer, who strides across to meet a forehand and loop it beyond the Frenchman. Deuce.

Adrian Mannarino maintains the momentum from that second-set win as he motors to 40-15, but then double faults and looks on bemused.

Struff is starting to pick up his game here, he doesn't want to let this first set slip away. It's easier said than done - the way Medvedev serves...

Mannarino had never taken a set off Federer at Wimbledon before, having lost in three when they previously met in 2011 and 2018.

Third time lucky for the Frenchman.

He did well to block out the crowd's reaction, one of tension and anxiety. Every Mannarino miss greeted by cheers and every Federer miss by groans.

    Top mentality.

    Chris Bradnam

    Mannarino's earned it really...

Federer is unsettled, he's been rattled here.

Barely winning any points at all against the Mannarino serve.

There's a sound of almost shock on the Centre Court.

  16. Tie-breakpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Looks like we're definitely going to see some tennis on the outside courts again today.

The covers are off on court two, where Britain's Francesca Jones is due to play Coco Gauff, and the umpire's chair has been wheeled into position.
