    Federer 5-4 Mannarino*

A quick hold from Roger Federer, just the one blemish on the eight-time champion's card, and the pressure is back on Adrian Mannarino, who will serve to stay in the first set.

  2. Mannarino 'staying in touch'published at 16:40 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Two

Mannarino has done a good job of staying in touch here with Federer serving first.

Both have had a chance to break.

    *Federer 4-4 Mannarino

It's sunny up north, JJ and Tim, maybe we should move the grasscourt season up here...

Safe to say the All England Club is getting its money's worth from the roof over the past couple of days.

Feels like we’re sat in a greenhouse sheltering. The rain is crashing down onto the roof, making it quite difficult to hear the sounds of strings walloping ball.

    *Federer 4-4 Mannarino

Roger Federer edges to 15-30 before Adrian Mannarino saunters forward to meet a short ball and sweeps it away. The Frenchman whizzes down a meaty serve and finishes off the hold with another silky forehand winner.

A number of matches on the outside courts have, understandably, now been cancelled.

There will be no play now until at least 5pm.

But given the absolute downpour I’ve just got caught in, I reckon it’ll be later than that. My socks are a bit soggy.

Federer will be happy with creating four break points but he will have been fuming at his own service game.

He’d landed just 39% of his first serves before that last game, where he finally found his groove.

    Federer 4-3 Mannarino*

Federer lost the first three points of the match on his serve. He's just won 10 on the spin, with back-to-back service holds to love. But we're still on serve, 4-3 in the first.

The scary thing is he's 39 but he moves like a 19-year-old sometimes!

Nine points in a row from Federer (on serve).

Two love holds in a row!

    *Federer 3-3 Mannarino

A one-handed backhand from Federer finds the middle of the net and that's 3-3.

  12. Murray's opponent still unknownpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

One other thing to mention... Andy Murray still doesn't know who his second-round opponent will be.

The Scot has a day off playing today, but no such luck for Germany's Oscar Otte or France's Arthur Rinderknech - one of whom await him.

The pair saw their match suspended at 21:00 BST because of darkness - with the deciding set delicately poised at 9-9.

They still haven’t returned because of the rain today.

In honour of Wimbledon starting this week, the folks at BBC Archive have dug out this interview with a young, very well-spoken Sue Barker, chatting about her career and having no regrets.

Sue reached the semi-finals at SW19 in 1977 but lost to Betty Stove - a match she told BBC Sport last year that she played "horribly in, from start to finish".

That Tennis Vegan: Surely Mannarino knows that pushing isn't going to work today against #Federer, external. Only chance he has is if Federer has a really bad day and Mannarino is focused on attack. Not his usual game plan. He's a decent grass courter but needs to attack hard.

Couldn’t possibly have been to read the build-up for England v Germany…

Spotted a couple of retro England shirts dotted around. Reckon there will be a few more sneaky looks post-5pm, possibly some ear pieces pumping through 5 Live…

Kerber's trademark crouch as she lobs Stojanovic and she consolidates her break - but is still not averse to a wobble here and there.

    Federer 2-1 Mannarino

The slice does not pay off for Federer as he misses the first chance. On the second, the first serve is no good but Mannarino is then able to volley a winner at the net. Deuce.
