Standing in the way of Roger Federer and a place in the Wimbledon second round is Adrian Mannarino, a player the Swiss has beaten in all six of their previous meetings and only dropped one set in the process.

The left-handed Frenchman has made it to the fourth round at SW19 on three occasions, last doing so in 2018, when he was knocked out by Federer in straight sets.

  2. Can Federer rediscover top form?published at 15:55 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Roger Federer's last Wimbledon outing was that epic defeat in the final by Novak Djokovic two years ago, and the Swiss has since taken time out for surgery on his knee.

That saw the 39-year-old out of action for most of 2020 and Federer withdrew from the Australian Open at the start of this year, while also pulling out of Roland Garros after his third-round win.

It has since been a battle to regain top form for the 20-time Grand Slam champion, losing in the second round at his own tournament in Halle earlier this month.

But this is Roger Federer, and this is Wimbledon...

With the breaks between Centre Court matches shorter today, Federer and Mannarino will be strolling out in THREE minutes.

Time to grab a cuppa and a pack of biccies before settling down...

Yesterday, I wrote a piece in which I mentioned I had seen a woman wearing a very apt strawberry face mask.

Judy Murray must have spotted her too because she has got one of her own today!

Or she read my piece...but we'll go with the former.

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 6-1 Suarez Navarro

World number one Ashleigh Barty, speaking on court: "To be able to share the court with [Carla] was incredible. She's a genuine champion and she's going to be very sorely missed."

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 6-1

In some ways the tennis was secondary today for Carla Suarez Navarro in her 11th and last appearance.

    Carla, we wish you well.

Game, set and match - Bartypublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 6-1 Suarez Navarro

Ashleigh Barty progresses into the second round, with a couple of 6-1s and with Carla Suarez Navarro winning a tie-break in between.

A wave to all sides of the Wimbledon crowd from Suarez Navarro as she walks off to a standing ovation and applause from everyone, including from Barty.

Suarez Navarro's mum is court-side and has been taking photos and she's holding back the tears, full of pride with everything her daughter has battled against.

Suarez Navarro, who has said she will retire at the end of the season after successfully fighting Hodgkin's lymphoma, still has the Olympics and US Open to look forward to, but that's the end of Wimbledon for her.

  9. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

A backhand from Suarez Navarro is wild and Barty has three match points.

  10. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 5-1 Suarez Navarro

And Barty goes long after a rally and Suarez Navarro does indeed get a game on the board in this set.

It probably won't affect the result though as Barty is now serving for the match.

  11. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Suarez Navarro, crouching on her knees, shows her skill to flick away a winner and that's 40-0.

  12. Postpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

A huge reception for Suarez Navarro as she serves and she then sends down her best shot of the set with a brilliant winner down the line.

  13. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 5-0 Suarez Navarro

This has been a completely ruthless deciding-set performance from Ashleigh Barty, showing why she's number one in the world.

Suarez Navarro has not been able to get into any of the games at all and Barty smashes away a lofted shot and that's 5-0.

Hopefully Suarez Navarro can get a game in this set. A 'bagel' in your last set ever at Wimbledon is not the way it should end.

  14. Barty gets a double breakpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 4-0 Suarez Navarro

And that should be the game. Ashleigh Barty breaks again and that's 4-0 in the final set.

  15. Postpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Maybe that second set has just physically and emotionally drained Suarez Navarro. A backhand goes narrowly long and that's a break point for Barty.

Channel change - BBC Two now.

  16. Postpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 3-0 Suarez Navarro

What a start to this final set this has been from Ashleigh Barty. She has not lost a point in three games and has so quickly regained control of this one. Three more games and she's in the last 64.

  17. Barty breakspublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 2-0 Suarez Navarro

Is that going to be a crucial moment in this match. Carla Suarez Navarro did superbly to take the second set via a tie-break, but Barty has put her foot down in the third set, racing to a 2-0 lead and a break of serve.

  18. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) 1-0 Suarez Navarro*

No drama in that opening game of the third set from Ashleigh Barty.

  19. A long wait for those outsidepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

While there is definitely no play on the outside courts until 15:30 BST, told there is a strong chance the covers will stay on until 16:30 BST.

Plenty of time to kill for those outside. Watch the Centre/One action on a big screen, follow England v Germany on the Beeb or maybe find a dry bench for a snooze? Options, options...

  20. Fairytale ending?published at 15:18 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) Suarez Navarro

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

Let's put this in context. This is Suarez Navarro's second match back in a year and a half.

She's been through some very tough medical treatment and she is sparring here, with the best player in the world.

We might be witnessing a Centre Court fairy tale.
