Barty sends Suarez Navarro running around the court and then, from well behind the baseline sends one high in the air. Barty takes it full on the volley, but there's a surprising lack of control and it flies long. 0-30.

BBC Sport tennis commentator on BBC One

These are clean hits from Zverev, he finds the middle of the racket a lot of the time. His success has come from his clean striking. I think he's added touch over the last two or three years, as well as a few kilos of muscle weight. This is one-way traffic here.

  3. Barty breaks, serving for the matchpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Barty 6-1 5-4 Suarez Navarro

That could be the crucial point of the match. With her first break-point opportunity, Barty takes it and that's the break she wanted.

The world number one will now be serving for the match.

We've seen some good rallies from the baseline in this game, Barty then opens up the shoulders to unleash a forehand winner. That slip from earlier on does not appear to have caused any damage.

Indeed, she now is 30-40 up, break point.

    Barty 6-1 4-4 Suarez Navarro*

A beautiful cross-court backhand angled winner from Suarez Navarro takes us to deuce, before Barty's 10th ace of the match gives her advantage and, shortly afterwards, the game.

  6. Barty keeping the pressure onpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Chanda Rubin
American former world number six on BBC TV

Barty needs to pay attention to how much energy Suarez Navarro has here, she's been breathing hard.

Been some very physical points, extended rallies.

Barty is doing a good job of keeping the ball on the Suarez Navarro racquet - not giving her a chance to breathe a bit easier.

    *Barty 6-1 3-4 Suarez Navarro

A sliced drop shot from Ashleigh Barty spins agonisingly out and that gives Suarez Navarro game point, which she takes soon after. Still on serve in the second set on Centre Court.

We've only got action under the roofs on Centre and Court One at the moment, with the covers on all the others.

    Barty 6-1 3-3 Suarez Navarro*

This has been a good recovery from Suarez Navarro after an uncompetitive first set, but the 32-year-old has slowed down Barty's charge and this second set could go either way.

  9. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 3-3 Suarez Navarro*

Another hold for Ashleigh Barty in the books. Suarez Navarro had won a couple of points but can't do more as she sends one high in the air and Barty smashes it away with contempt to win the game.

Only 47 minutes gone and we're 3-3 in the second set.

    *Barty 6-1 2-3 Suarez Navarro

Ashleigh Barty's movement does not appear to be hampered by that slip but the game goes Suarez Navarro's way as a Barty backhand down the line is off range.

    Barty 6-1 2-2 Suarez Navarro*

Another slip on Centre Court, after we had a little bit of rain earlier, before the covers came on and the roof was then closed.

Barty, who had to withdraw from the French Open because of injury, is the one who slipped and gets to her feet very gingerly indeed, hoping there's no damage. One to monitor.

  13. Game and second set Zverevpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Griekspoor 3-6 4-6 Zverev

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev is closing in on the second round.

  14. Barty saves break point to holdpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 2-2 Suarez Navarro*

Suarez Navarro has a break point chance, only her second of the match, but a backhand drifts wide, before she blasts a forehand into the net.

She then can only send a looping return on the stretch out and Barty survives that scare.

  15. Korda stuns De Minaurpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Korda 6-3 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5) De Minaur

Despite the rain, play still continued initially on some of the outside courts.

On court 17, 20-year-old American Sebastian Korda has delivered a shock after beating 15th seed Alex De Minaur 6-3 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-5), before play across the rest of those courts was suspended.

Kiki Bertens was allowed to play four minutes of her match against Marta Kostyuk before the players were taken off the court.

    *Barty 6-1 1-2 Suarez Navarro

A couple of Hawk Eye challenges from Carla Suarez Navarro. One goes against her, one goes for her - by one millimetre.

The Spaniard, with a cracking one-handed backhand, then gets fortunate as the ball bounces off the tape and just creeps over.

    That brings deuce.

  17. The Talented Miss Bartypublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Barty 6-1 0-1 Suarez Navarro

A backhand into the net from Barty gives Carla Suarez Navarro a hold and only her second game of the match.

Can that be a springboard into this match? She had one break-point chance on the Barty serve in the first set and didn't take it.
