    Barty 6-1 6-7 (1-7) Suarez Navarro

World number one Ashleigh Barty was serving for the match and two points away from the second round, but it has been a brilliant, gutsy display from Carla Suarez Navarro and she wins the set.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams are both in action later on, but they have to wait, into a decider we go.

It's been a while since Barty has had to close out a match, and especially at a Slam when you want to get into the tournament.

This is a much better start than the last game when she was serving for the match.

30-0 allows you a little breathing room for misses like that.

These two are obviously friends and that's nice, but this has been an absolute hammering.

Griekspoor earned his place in this draw, but he was well beaten today.

Can this go into a third set? Carla Suarez Navarro holds her serve to lead 6-5 in the second. Barty was serving for the match, now it's to stay in the second set.

I normally avoid rain at all costs. I utterly hate it. But just for you guys, I chose - yes, CHOSE - to go outside to see what was going on.

And I can confirm, it's grim.

Fans are gathered under any sort of roof they can find, while those more hardy souls are huddled under their umbrellas on a soggy Henman Hill. Bet the Wimbledon shop is doing a roaring trade on those right now...

  18. Suarez Navarro breakspublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Barty 6-1 5-5 Suarez Navarro*

But a second chance of a break comes Suarez Navarro's way and this time she claims it - to keep her participation at Wimbledon, in the final year of her career, going for a bit longer.

Suarez Navarro is understandably struggling to hold on to her emotions and looks close to tears, but she has a vital break and we're back on serve.

Barty was two points from the second round, but we continue.

  19. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Suarez Navarro has a break point and she has a chance, but she can't take it. She has her head in her hands, crouched down, that was a big opportunity and she might not get another one.

Good movement, good court coverage from Suarez Navarro.

Been some signs of tension from Barty... and that was one of them!

Never easy serving out a match, her first on grass in a couple of years.
