Anyone who's been lucky enough to have a seat here today can count themselves very fortunate indeed.

Venus wins, 41 years of age, still a champion. She's just shown exactly why. Five Wimbledon titles - she's not finished yet in this sport. These are quite lovely scenes.

But it's just started raining, here come the covers and that's a pause to the action.

If they decide to close the Centre Court roof then that will be a 15-minute delay.

A solid performance from five-time champion Venus Williams takes the American into the second round at Wimbledon, following a victory in three sets against Mihaela Buzarnescu.

A double break of serve in the deciding set seals a 7-5 4-6 6-3 win for the 41-year-old world number 111 on court three against the Romanian.

Buzarnescu put up a good fight, winning the second set to level the match and denying Williams her first match point before breaking back for 2-5 in the third.

But Williams prevailed under real pressure on her next service game - saving three break points after being denied her second match point - to finally progress.

Williams will meet Tunisian Ons Jabeur next, after the 21st seed beat Sweden's Rebecca Peterson 6-2 6-1 earlier today.

Another routine hold of serve for Ashleigh Barty, whose Wimbledon record isn't really much to get excited about.

She got to the fourth round in 2019, the third round in 2018 but lost at the first round stage in both 2012 and 2017.

That a hold for Carla Suarez Navarro as that slip does not prove costly. After a lengthy forehand rally from the baselines, Barty sends one long and we're at 1-1.

Ashleigh Barty v Carla Suarez Navarro

World number one Ashleigh Barty will be playing her first match for almost four weeks since she was forced to retire during her second-round clash at the French Open because of a hip injury.

The Australian is positive about her fitness, saying: “Straight after Paris, obviously there was some time where we needed to digest what was going on. We needed to get a full diagnosis.

“We were able to do that, which is a really crucial part of my rehab. We’ve been able to go through the rehab, do what we’ve needed to do, give ourselves the best chance to play here at Wimbledon. Now I feel like I’m fit. I’m ready to play. I’m excited to play.”

What a shot! Venus Williams rolling back the years. Four games to one. This really has been quite a sight, there's been so little between them. If anything, Williams is actually getting better here. She hasn't played much tennis lately and I think this match is playing her into form.

Ashleigh Barty v Carla Suarez Navarro

Carla Suarez Navarro has said she will retire this year after competing in the Olympics and at the US Open.

She returned to Grand Slam action at the French Open after recovering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“It’s incredible to have Carla back,” said today's opponent Ashleigh Barty. “She’s got this tremendous character of resilience and strength, longevity. I think for me to be able to experience opening Centre Court on Tuesday with her is going to be really cool.

“I hope that we have a great match. To see her doing what she loves again is really, really awesome.”

Ashleigh Barty v Carla Suarez Navarro (13:30 BST)

It promises to be an emotional afternoon for Carla Suarez Navarro as she plays on Centre Court for potentially the final time in her career.

The popular 32-year-old Spaniard, a former top-10 player, had announced her intention to retire at the end of 2020 before first the coronavirus pandemic hit and then, in September, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

She faced months of treatment before, in April, announcing the great news that she had been told she was free of cancer.
