First set in the bag for Dan Evans and the crowd enjoyed that one.

He’s sat in his chair looking like he’d rather just crack on, jiggling his legs, while Feliciano Lopez takes the opportunity to change top.

    England shirt count: 2

Harriet Dart is very good at hanging in there in matches. She can just wipe that first set from her mind somehow and she's coming out very buzzy in this second set. She's going to make things happen if she possibly can.

  8. Tie-breakpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Evans 6-6 (5-4) Lopez

What a point! Feliciano Lopez can't put it away as Dan Evans dashes around the court, lofting it back, before the Spaniard eventually takes an overhead on the bounce and almost impales Evans.

The 22nd seed is not fazed and regains composure to stop Lopez's run of points.

  9. Tie-breakpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Evans 6-6 (4-3) Lopez*

Ooh. Just a tad long from Dan Evans and then he clips the tape with a forehand that leaps into the tramlines. And it's back on serve.

  10. Tie-breakpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Evans 6-6 (4-1) Lopez

Lopez gets off the mark with a classy backhand but can do nothing about a dipping crosscourt effort from Evans after steaming towards the net. The British number one in control.

You do sense the first set is more important for Lopez to win than Evans. Dan will hang in here for as many hours as needed, but maybe Feliciano might not.

  12. Tie-breakpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Now the crowd are enjoying this. Great depth from Dan Evans to force Feliciano Lopez into an error and he backs it up with another.

What a lovely backhand winner down the line from Dan Evans, picking Feliciano Lopez off at the net.

In true Dan Evans fashion, he’s really geeing himself on for every point. A pump of the fist and big exhale as he takes the first set into a tie-break. Davis Cup captain Leon Smith is sat a couple of rows in front of me watching on.

As an aside, I’ve spotted the first England shirt of the day. I suspect there will be a few more as the clock approaches 5pm…

  15. Game and first set Pliskovapublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Pliskova 7-5 0-0 Zidansek*

What a turnaround by eighth seed Karolina Pliskova!

The Czech trailed 5-2 in the first set but saved a set point before breaking opponent Tamara Zidansek's serve twice on her way to winning the next five games and sealing a 7-5 opening set.

    *Evans 5-6 Lopez

Dan Evans does his best to snuff that chance out with a winning forehand this time and then saunters into the net to meet a Feliciano Lopez passing attempt with a confident backhand volleyed winner. 30-30.

  18. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    *Evans 5-6 Lopez

Hmm. Dan Evans winds up a forehand but leaks it wide and that's 0-30. Feliciano Lopez just senses and opening here...

  19. Lopez: Tricky serve to readpublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC One

Evans really is not reading Lopez's serve.

Lopez has done a spectacular job of mixing up the serve and not giving him the same look.

At the moment Evans is just not getting the rhythm on the return.

    *Mertens 6-1 Dart

That set's gone, now you start level again. I know the first serve percentages are actually the same, but Mertens' second serve is way better. Dart is under pressure.
