    Mertens 6-1 Dart

A long way back for British number three Harriet Dart on Court 18.

Elise Mertens is striking the ball well, hitting deep in the court to put Dart on the back foot and make her work.

That’s translated into too many errors for the Briton’s liking, including a long backhand to wrap up the set.

    Evans 5-5 Lopez*

Lovely passing winner from Dan Evans after dragging Feliciano Lopez into the net and the Brit follows up with a "come on!" after taking the next point, too. The 22nd seed whips an ace down the tee and adds another that leaves Lopez rooted to the spot to hold.

I'm sure Harriet's had many coaches and heard many different views of how to get her serve better - and it has, generally - but then she comes up against these very good returners...

The better players you play, the better returns they have and then it becomes a real problem. The last two games have just gotten away from her.

    *Evans 4-5 Lopez

Oh no! Huge chance for Dan Evans as he strides on to a short ball only to wrap a forehand into the tape. And from there, Feliciano Lopez holds.

Saved! With a slightly unorthodox volley, but a winner nonetheless for the Spaniard. Deuce again.

Dan Evans is applying to pressure here and Feliciano Lopez is feeling it after a couple of missed opportunities... he coaxes a forehand wide and Evans has break point.

    Evans 4-4 Lopez*

Great exchange! But it's Feliciano Lopez who comes out on top after taking control of the point at the net, the Spaniard dices down another big serve but Dan Evans challenges it and he's on the money.

Nervy point now... but no sign of Lopez wavering! A smash brings up 40-30 but Evans is hanging in there. Deuce.

    Mertens 5-0 Dart*

    Jonathan Jurejko

Harriet Dart reached the third round here in 2019. The early signs are she will have her work cut out to make round two.

Elise Mertens is the 13th seed and while her pedigree on grass is not eye-catching, she has enough ability to cause problems for plenty of opponents.

That is exactly what is happening here, the Belgian racing into a 5-0 lead with barely half an hour on the clock.

“C’MON, LET’S GO!” cries Evans as he holds the eighth game, saving break point along the way.

He canters to the first two points on Lopez’s serve. Suddenly, Evans looks pumped for this.

How quickly this match can swing.

Dan Evans was facing a break point a moment ago but Feliciano Lopez runs into some trouble on his own serve. 0-30.

    Evans 4-4 Lopez*

Well, a potential spot of bother for Dan Evans here... a couple of errors bring up the first break point and it's in Feliciano Lopez's favour, but the British number one lashes down a meaty serve to fend it off and follows with another. Can he get over the line? Yes, a framed effort from Lopez and Evans take an important hold from break point down.

    *Evans 2-3 Lopez

Feliciano Lopez might be pushing 40, but he's looking as effortlessly cool as ever and rocking a headband in the sort of fashion most of us could only dream of. The Spaniard saunters into the net to slap away a short ball and chalk up another hold himself.

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

You may remember that Harriet Dart was watched by the Duchess of Cambridge on an outside court at Wimbledon a couple of years ago.

No sign of HRH today. Clearly not as dedicated a tennis fan as we thought.

If Our Catherine had been here, she would be saddened to see Dart lose her first service game and fall 2-0 behind in the opening set.

Lovely pick-up backhand from the British number one as he races to a love hold. That'll do the trick, classy shot from Dan Evans.
