Elise Mertens is striking the ball well, hitting deep in the court to put Dart on the back foot and make her work.

That’s translated into too many errors for the Briton’s liking, including a long backhand to wrap up the set.

Lovely passing winner from Dan Evans after dragging Feliciano Lopez into the net and the Brit follows up with a "come on!" after taking the next point, too. The 22nd seed whips an ace down the tee and adds another that leaves Lopez rooted to the spot to hold.

I'm sure Harriet's had many coaches and heard many different views of how to get her serve better - and it has, generally - but then she comes up against these very good returners...

The better players you play, the better returns they have and then it becomes a real problem. The last two games have just gotten away from her.

Harriet Dart reached the third round here in 2019. The early signs are she will have her work cut out to make round two.

Elise Mertens is the 13th seed and while her pedigree on grass is not eye-catching, she has enough ability to cause problems for plenty of opponents.

That is exactly what is happening here, the Belgian racing into a 5-0 lead with barely half an hour on the clock.

Czech eighth seed Karolina Pliskova is struggling in her opening set against Slovenia's French Open semi-finalist Tamara Zidansek over on court 14.

Pliskova trails 4-2 in the first set after she was broken in her opening service game, and has just saved a break point on her way to winning the sixth game.

A little skip into the net from Feliciano Lopez is complemented by a deft volley that falls beyond the reach of Dan Evans as the Spaniard canters to a quick hold.

Dan Evans creeps to 30-0 before Feliciano Lopez leaps on a slower second serve and wins the point with a corking forehand that screams past the British number one.

Evans slices his way through the next exchange and then holds with a snappy second serve.

Feliciano Lopez might be pushing 40, but he's looking as effortlessly cool as ever and rocking a headband in the sort of fashion most of us could only dream of. The Spaniard saunters into the net to slap away a short ball and chalk up another hold himself.

You may remember that Harriet Dart was watched by the Duchess of Cambridge on an outside court at Wimbledon a couple of years ago.

No sign of HRH today. Clearly not as dedicated a tennis fan as we thought.

If Our Catherine had been here, she would be saddened to see Dart lose her first service game and fall 2-0 behind in the opening set.
