  1. Zverev breaks at start of secondpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Auger-Aliassime 6-4 0-1 Zverev*

If Gauff and Kerber's match is flying by then Zverev and FAA are going along at a snail's place.

The last five service games have all gone to deuce and it's Zverev who has taken the early break to start the second set.

  2. Game and first set Kerberpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Gauff 4-6 Kerber

And there it is, Coco Gauff goes long and Angelique Kerber takes the opening set on Centre Court by six games to four.

  3. Set point Kerberpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Gauff 4-5 Kerber*

Gauff recovers from an opening mis-hit, which actually almost somehow dropped in, but Kerber mixes things up with a slice to edge ahead. 30-15.

The German then sets up two set points but Gauff saves the first with an electric backhand.

  4. Gauff holdspublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Gauff 4-5 Kerber*

Coco Gauff races into the net to kill a point but she can't get hold of Kerber's powerful response and the German puts the pressure on once more at 30-30.

Gauff gets her reward for a willingness to close on the net on the next point, and sees out the game to force Kerber to serve for the set. This feels as though it's flying by!

  5. Game and first set - Auger-Aliassimepublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Auger-Aliassime 6-4 Zverev

You know we mentioned about Alexander Zverev's propensity to double fault?

Well, he's coughed up his eighth of the match to give Felix Auger-Aliassime a set point, which he took after the German netted a return.

Zverev is not in the best of moods. He led by a break in that set before completely losing it on serve.

  6. Kerber holdspublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    *Gauff 3-5 Kerber

Both players are beginning to find their rhythm now, as Kerber moves to 30-0 on serve, but a double-fault opens the door slightly for Gauff.

The American can't take advantage, sending a couple of shots into the netting to put Kerber within one game of the first set.

Karolina Muchova has just secured her place in the quarter-finals with a straight-set win over Paula Badosa.

Muchova, who memorably beat world number one Ash Barty to reach the last four at the Australian Open, prevailed 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 over the Spaniard.

Elsewhere, American 23rd seed Madison Keys will have to go the long route to reach the next stage.

She's just dropped the first set 7-6 (7-3) to world number 66 Viktorija Golubic.

Well, the 18-year-old didn't hang around in the decider, winning it 6-0 against Serb Marko Topo.

    Gauff 3-4 Kerber*

A brutal, cathartic smash at the net from Coco Gauff sends the American on her way and a final ace, pitched down the centre, ensures the teenager responds with her own first hold of serve.

    *Gauff 2-4 Kerber

Nicely done. Angelique Kerber forces Coco Cauff back before catching the American on her heels with a delicate winner at the net for 30-15.

Gauff responds, but another winner from the Kerber forehand puts the German within touching distance of a first hold in this match.

Gauff goes long, and Kerber takes charge!

For Kerber, these breaks do not surprise me - her serve is not necessarily a weapon.

But for Coco, you would expect a little better.

It’s notably busier at Wimbledon today.

It’s gone up to 75% capacity and the queues for everything seem so much longer. It feels more like the Wimbledon of old.

This is the queue for a tiny strawberries and cream stall.

    Gauff 2-3 Kerber*

Having just watched over Russian Karen Khachanov's five-set win over American Sebastian Korda, in which there were a remarkable 13 breaks of serve in a chaotic final set, this doesn't really surprise me any more.

Angelique Kerber breaks Coco Gauff's serve. It's a fifth break in a row at the start of this contest on Centre as both players struggle to settle in.

    *Auger-Aliassime 4-4 Zverev

Alexander Zverev has a nasty habit of double-faulting at key moments.

He's just tripped into three in one game, twice on game point, and a long, loopy forehand has just cancelled out his break advantage over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Neither Zverev or the umpire are happy with someone in the crowd, who has called out twice on key points, distracting both players.

Gauff is handling the change in her life very well. I also think that the pandemic also gave her a bit of a reprieve.

Her team has been able to work on her game. She's had a really consistent year. She's not intimidated by anybody and she feels like she can win every time she gos out on court.

    Gauff 1-2 Kerber*

Can Kerber record the first hold of the match and take control of this first set now?

Gauff sends a forehand winner down the line, and gets to 15-30 as Kerber nets.

Wow, it's two break points to Gauff now!

    Rublev 3-6 6-4 6-4 0-6 3-6 Fucsovics

A bit of a shock on court two as fifth seed Andrey Rublev is knocked out in five sets by Marton Fucsovics.

The Hungarian, ranked 48th in the world, was 2-1 down against the Russian but won the fourth set with a bagel before he capitalised on two breaks in the fifth.

I think both if these ladies have an opportunity to win the title.

They both feel comfortable on this service.

    Both nervy as a result.
