Finally these two are playing the way we know they can, and we have a high quality final.
Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 5-2 Pliskova*
Almost there Ash, almost there.
After Pliskova wins the first point, a carefully-controlled overhead brings Barty level at 15-15 and then she injects some pace for a 30-15 lead.
Pliskova executes a pinpoint forehand crosscourt winner, clenching her fist in triumph as ball kisses line. 30-30.
Barty regroups and goes to a play we've seen regularly - a big first serve and equally punchy forehand - for 40-30. And she seals the hold when Pliskova pushes a forehand wide.
*Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 4-2 Pliskova
We've already seen Pliskova fight back once - who's ruling it out again? Not me. The Czech eyeballs a high ball and pumps down a smash to clinch the hold.
Here's how Karolina Pliskova took the 2021 women's final to a decider...
Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 4-1 Pliskova*
When Pliskova connects with her groundstrokes, they zip down the line in complete contrast to Boris Johnson on the O2 Arena wire. Basically, they don't get stuck.
That allows the Czech to take a look at the Barty serve at 30-30, only for a loose return to allow the Aussie to reassert her authority.
Barty goes on to hold and edges closer to the main prize...
*Hewett/Reid 7-5 2-1 Egberink/Gerard
An early break at the start of the second set has put British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid in firm control of their wheelchair doubles final.
They broke Dutchman Tom Egberink and Belgian Joachim Gerard to 15 in the opening game before holding serve, and their opponents are now on the board.

Karolina Pliskova, a woman with at least half a dozen lives in this match, is going to have to come from behind again in this match.
Talking of hot water, think we're all going to need a cup of tea after this. It's been an emotional rollercoaster!

You just never know when Karolina Pliskova will turn the hot tap back on.

That's the first Pliskova volley that she's made in a while!
Hooray! She can feel good about that one!
*Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 3-1 Pliskova
A few demons are exorcised by Pliskova when she is again dragged forward by Barty, volleying her way to a 30-0 lead and turning that into 40-0.
A swish of the forehand sends a winner flying down the line. That, my friends, is a morale-boosting hold for the Czech.

It must be a comedown after winning that second set. Pliskova gave it everything, but Barty has reset and Pliskova not able to commit to the ball as she did in the second set.
Barty has done a really great job of refocussing.
Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 3-0 Pliskova*
Splendid reset from Barty. The world number one locks back in, trying to move Pliskova on the baseline. The Czech blinks, whacking a forehand long - and possibly wide, too - and Barty backs up the break.
*Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 2-0 Pliskova
I was going to say nothing is simple in this match. So a Barty hold is far from guaranteed.
Then, the Aussie races 40-0 ahead. Hang on, I was right. A double fault from the top seed and suddenly it is 40-30....
*Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 2-0 Pliskova
After digging herself out a hole, Pliskova dived head first back into it. A double fault for 0-30 sets the tone before another volley into the net - we've watched that scene of a Czech horror movie before - hands over the break.

Barty nearly got herself in a little bit of trouble there from 40-0.
Just had to maneouvre Pliskova around a little bit, but nice to be serving first.
If there was a break it would mean Pliskova would have to serve it out... and we've seen how hard that it.
Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 1-0 Pliskova
Who, about 40 minutes ago, saw a third set coming? If you click the thumbs-up emoji then, I'm sorry, I don't believe you.
Barty 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 1-0 Pliskova*
Barty gets the third-set show started and seems to be heading towards a comfortable hold at 40-0.
But wait! Nothing is simple in this match. Suddenly it's 40-40.
Barty gains the advantage and keeps her cool in a cross-court rally, forcing Pliskova to come forward and clip into the net.
Important hold for the Aussie, you would think.
