The Thiem-Kyrgios match will be taking place on the John Cain Arena, instead of the two bigger courts - the Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena.

But Kyrgios says this is his favourite court and he has got his wish to play there. There will 5,000 fans in there - and they are making a great amount of noise as both players enter the arena.

Hopefully, this will not be the last time this tournament there is a great atmosphere at one of the matches.

  5. 'The players have loved having the fans around'published at 08:11 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2021

It was a huge feat to get everyone here. A couple of days before I left Los Angeles I wasn't confident it would happen but Tennis Australia has done an incredible job.

I'm getting the sense from people in Melbourne they are confident it will be contained.

On the first day of the Australian Open it felt like the Australian Open. It's been nice to have the crowds and you can see it on players' faces they've just loved having the fans around. Everyone is just happy to be competing again and a lot of people appreciate that they can have this event."

On the hotel lockdown before the tournament started: "Tennis Australia did a great job, they put a spin bike in my room so I was doing two-time daily workouts."

They [the state authorities] need to do what they have got to do, they've had success in stamping out the virus and that's why fans have been able to be in the stadium.

The players have enjoyed their lives and felt free.

Victoria has had the hardest lockdown possible to get to this stage. The tennis has to fit in line. It has been an incredible feat to get the tennis on and it's a terrible shame at the moment. The scenes we have witnessed are like nothing we have seen in tennis for a while.

  7. 'The hope is by Thursday fans will be allowed in'published at 08:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2021

Enjoy the fans while we have them. Even though the Australian Open will be able to continue, there will be no fans between Saturday and Wednesday. The hope is by Thursday and semi-finals day fans will be allowed in.

There had been rumours over the past 24 hours and The Herald newspaper got it spot on saying Victoria was on the verge of another lockdown. It will start from midnight tonight (13:00 GMT).

The restrictions that people will be under are very similar to what we are living under in the UK.

From a tennis point of view, thank goodness the cases have not been caused by the tennis and thank goodness it [the tournament] doesn't have to pause.

The Australian Open will proceed without spectators

The Australian state of Victoria will enter lockdown for a third time in a bid to suppress an outbreak of the UK strain of coronavirus.

Officials this week found 13 cases stemming from a quarantine worker who became infected at a Melbourne hotel.

The lockdown will begin on Friday midnight (13:00 GMT) and end on Wednesday.

However, the government has said the Australian Open tennis tournament would continue in the state's capital, Melbourne.

Spectators will be banned from attending the event from Saturday, which had previously allowed up to 30,000 visitors a day. Tickets will be refunded, tournament director Craig Tiley said.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the current outbreak was not linked to the quarantine hotels used by the tennis players.

Hello and welcome to BBC Sport's coverage of day five of the Australian Open.

We have live radio commentary of Dominic Thiem v Nick Kyrgios on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra coming up very soon.

But there has been big news from Australia this morning and there's only one place to start...

  10. Can Kyrgios delight the home fans?published at 07:59 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2021

It had been a hugely welcome return to some sort of sporting normality with more than 20,000 people watching on at the opening few days of Australian Open.

Now, sadly, a mini lockdown is coming back to Melbourne so today will be the last time we have fans in the stands for a while.

But what a match we have got for the fans to enjoy while they can. US Open champion Dominic Thiem versus home hero and the always talented, often unpredictable Nick Kyrgios.

    One not to miss.
