    Thiem 4-6 4-6 5-2 Kyrgios*

Kyrgios blasted his way through the sixth game and Thiem has just done that in the seventh so he is just one game from the third set.

Kyrgios may still have that opening game of the set, when he failed to take two break points, still on his mind.

    *Thiem 4-6 4-6 4-2 Kyrgios

A 55-second game from Kyrgios is exactly what he needs as he sprints through that one.

We've gone past 9pm in Melbourne. With the lockdown starting at midnight, games in under a minute aren't the worst thing in the world.

You do wonder how Kyrgios is feeling, if he's starting to feel fatigued from that physical and emotional match against Humbert. We're now seeing exactly the sort of points that Thiem wants to play.

The spark and enthusiasm from Kyrgios and the crowd has vanished at the moment. From the baseline he tries to pulls a forehand to the line, but gets too much on it and sends it wide. A hold to love for Thiem.

    *Thiem 4-6 4-6 3-1 Kyrgios

Kyrgios gets a game on the board in the third set but he's chattering away to himself and that is not a good sign. An ace down the middle is far too good and Kyrgios takes the game after three in a row for his opponent.

    Thiem 4-6 4-6 3-0 Kyrgios*

The first sign of the Kyrgios shoulders slumping a bit as Thiem, following that break, holds to love.

You get the feeling this could be Thiem's chance to pile on the pressure, silence the crowd and change the feel of this match.

Thiem doesn't look happy or emotional. He looks quite flat.

    *Thiem 4-6 4-6 2-0 Kyrgios

We said that previous game, where Thiem saved two break points to hold, could be a turning point in this match, and the Austrian, for the first time, then gets the break straight after.

Kyrgios had saved two break points but can't save a third. The ball clips the net, wiping out all its speed and it sits up nicely for Thiem to swat away a forehand winner with Kyrgios guessing the wrong way.

How will Kyrgios cope when things go against him? We will soon find out.

This is not as positive as it has been from Kyrgios. There's a lot of shaking of the head.

    Thiem 4-6 4-6 1-0 Kyrgios*

Thiem had a break point chance, missed it, then flicked one wide. Kyrgios then tries a third underarm serve of the match, he misses it though and that's a success rate of one out of three, although the one did clinch the second set.

Kyrgios then nets and Thiem is now piling the pressure on with his third break point of the game.

Dominic Thiem with his first break point of the match. But Kyrgios, on the stretch, after a serve-volley approach, sees off the threat. Deuce.

There hasn't been a mental letdown from Kyrgios, which is extremely impressive.

  15. Thiem saves two break points to holdpublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2021

    Thiem 4-6 4-6 1-0 Kyrgios*

That could've been a route to the exit door if that one had gone against Thiem. Kyrgios at 15-40 had two break point chances, but can't take either of them and Thiem digs deep to hold.

That's the sort of game that could prove to be a turning point. Maybe.

    *Thiem 4-6 4-6 0-0 Kyrgios

I just wonder how this match would've panned out if it had been played tomorrow with no-one in the stands. There's no doubt that Kyrgios is feeding off this atmosphere, he's winding the crowd up, demanding more noise and the fans are definitely playing their part by responding and waving their flags.

Kyrgios has two break points early in the third.

    Thiem 4-6 4-6 Kyrgios

    Miles Maclagan

It's a football-like atmosphere. Kyrgios has been absolutely domniant and he's frustrated Dominic Thiem. Thiem's mind is all over the place.

  18. Game and second set - Kyrgiospublished at 09:41 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2021

    Thiem 4-6 4-6 Kyrgios

At set point, Kyrgios wins it with an underarm serve! It caught everyone out, the camera operator didn't see it coming, but more importantly, neither did Thiem.

What a way to seal the set. For the second set in a row, Kyrgios wins it 6-4. Thiem mentally drained in this bear-pit atmosphere.

Remember, Kyrgios is unseeded, Thiem the world number three. But if Thiem is to stay in this tournament he is going to have to go the distance and win it in five.

There were signs there that Thiem really did not want to be a part of this.
